[The] Gewurztraminer Furstentum Vendange Tardive opens with a very clear, fresh, piquant and minerally flavored passion fruit bouquet. Rich, intense, fresh and piquant on the palate, this is a sweet and concentrated but highly elegant, finessed and well-structured VT. Although this wine is not yet approved as VT by the official board AVA, it is a gorgeous wine that has a great potential to age and to improve over the years on the bottle. Good full yellow-gold. Dried apricot, passion fruit, lemon and honey on the opulent nose. Then slightly more austere in the middle, offering very concentrated flavors similar to the aromas. Already delicious now, with ripe acids framing and extending the compellingly pure, penetrating fruit flavors. Very long on the suave finish. About 30 percent botrytized grapes. (97) IAN D'AGATA

The 2017 Chardonnay Estate is quite deep and almost phenolic in its sense of structure. This a rare Chardonnay that absolutely demands cellaring. Sage, almond, dried pear, chalk, mint, lemon confit and crushed rocks develop with time in the glass, but the 2017 is a wine that will need at least a few years in bottle to start drinking well. Readers should be in no rush. ANTONIO GALLONI

Made from grapes with 30/40% botrytised berries, the 2016 Rothenberg Riesling Auslese has a clear citrus colour and opens with a bright, fresh and concentrated bouquet of grapefruits, lemons and wet stones. Round and deliciously lush on the palate, this is a mouth-filling, highly elegant, piquant and salty Auslese with nice grip, grapefruit flavors on the aftertaste and pencil wood on the finish. Bright pale straw-green. Fresh nose of green apple, quince lime and herbs. Then minty, almost peppery flavors of green fig, apple and gooseberry. Finishes long and suave with zippy acidity and a hint of minerality at the back. This is still very young but magically combines precision, concentration and refinement as only this cuvée manages. Strikes me as an earlier maturing version of Fréderic Emile, but will undoubtedly be another great star in this wine’s constellation history. IAN D'AGATA, Vinous Media

The 2012 Riesling Frédéric Emile starts clear, subtle and very elegant on the floral nose. Elegant, piquantly mineral and finesse-full on the palate, with a lot of Spiel and restrained power but also some petrol hints (?) this bottling shows a nice purity and a long and tension-filled finish. What is there to say about this superb Yarra Valley winery. Headed up by Dave Bicknell it feels like they can do no wrong. Everything they make from top to bottom is deftly put together and sourced from the Yarra's best vineyards. The quality is always outstanding and the LVS (local vineyard series) is some of the best value Pinot and Chardonnay around. PWS

I’ve probably said it before, and anyone who knows me knows I’m prone to repeating myself, but what a lovely evocative name it is for a vineyard.

It doesn’t need any styling products; there’s not a hair out of place here. White peach and lime, green melon, almond nougat, a whisper of struck match and spice. Smooth and flavoursome, a subtle viscosity interlaid with chalk and flint, some floral mouth-perfume, slight tweak to the finish with citrus rind and grapefruit tang. Right proper Chardonnay here.
