Chateau d'Yquem 2006 375ml
PRE ARRIVAL - DUE EARLY 2022
While no surprise here, this wine, which will be bottled in 2009, is certainly this estate's greatest effort since their 2001. It completely outclasses everything from the appellation, but even when you're number one, that's often hard to do. This light gold wine offers up a sensational smorgasbord of aromas including huge honeyed pineapple and other caramelized tropical fruit flavors, massive richness, and a viscous, unctuous texture with the oak beautifully integrated. The wine has enough acidity to buttress its full-bodied mouthfeel, but this is not by any means the sweetest or most alcoholic of the d'Yquems I have tasted. In fact, in the range of d'Yquems, this is a powerful wine, but it is one built more on finesse and elegance, a la the 1988. Nevertheless, this wine will prove to have 50+ years of longevity. The finish, the mid-palate, the sensation of looking at a skyscraper of Semillon with a small dosage of Sauvignon, is impressive. Like all of the sweet wines of Barsac and Sauternes, one can drink this young, but the nuances and complexities really don't emerge for at least a decade, especially in the case of a wine such as this. Zind Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Roche Roulee 2018Damask rose, orange peel and pith and juicy peach make for an attractive combination on the nose of this wine. The palate has gentle sweetness that is countered by pleasant, phenolic bitterness that lends shape to this off-dry, spicy, mellow wine. Yes it is generous, but all that zesty pithiness makes the wine intriguing. The off-dry finish is textured. WINE ENTHUSIAST
This wine is made from all the very old Gewurztraminer vines planted in the Turckheim/Herrenweg vineyards. Some of these vineyards are also located in the richest part of the valley floor, where the gravels are mixed with by richer silt. With deeper roots and richer soils available to them, these vines didn't suffer from drought. The ripeness progressed quickly in 2018. Gewurztraminer is a wine that can surprisingly ferment fast, which is handy, as a higher pH would expose these wines to more problems if the fermentation would last too long. The 2018 grapes were beautiful and healthy.
Bright yellow colour. The nose is classic with an expressive and strong expressive floral character, nice spices, yet delicate and complex. The palate is harmonious, there is a slight roundness well balanced by ripe tannins. Nice length, serious finish with a fresh aftertaste. Beautiful classic Gewurztraminer. ZIND HUMBRECHT

Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve NVThe base wine is equal parts pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier from the'07 vintage, and 40% reserve wine is added prior to the wine being bottled for its second fermentation. The reserve wine has an average age of 10 years, so after three years on lees prior to disgorgement the Brut Reserve has an average age of just under six years. Aromas of brioche, almond and peach; the palate has great length and complexity, the youthful base wine's freshness contrasting with the velvety/creamy nuances of the Reserve. Pierre Menard Clos de Mailles Anjou Blanc 2017
After studying wine in the Agronomic school of Angers, Pierre travelled the world to learn about the different processes and made wine in Canada, New Zealand and Hungary. Only in his late twenties, Pierre started to produce wine in the Layon in 2013. Since his first vintage Pierre's wines have been met with critical acclaim.
The Clos des Mailles comes from three parcels in the vineyard; one is 25 years old, one 100 years, and the other 8 years. You won't find any botrytis character here. As Pierre works very hard to exclude this from his wines, wanting the purity of the vineyard to be at the forefront. In the same vein, it has been vinified using 80% old French oak and 20% stainless steel. This results in a beautifully mineral wine with layered complexity. Yellow plum, flint, smoky/schisty, and ripe peach all play together with great acidity and minerality. Purity, structure, a lengthy finish, and utter deliciousness, Pierre's Clos des Mailles is an experience we all deserve this year. BRIAN2011Chenin BlancFrance422$72.00 As low as $64.80
Pavie Macquin 2018
18 bottles available at time of offer.
A wine that really shows the diversity and differences of wine critics and cast the numbers away. You can double down on this theory for en-primeur, where the wines are still not baked. Located next too the hill of Mondot, with Pavie to the south. Organically made and extremely limited availability -Tom Portet
James Suckling 97-98
This is a decadent and beautiful young wine with wild aromas and flavors of meat, wet earth and plums. Very complex. Full-bodied yet soft and very velvety. The tannins melt into the wine, as if they aren't there. Extremely long finish. 78 per cent merlot, 20 per cent cabernet franc and two per cent cabernet sauvignon.
Andrew Caillard, MV 96
Deep colour. Intense enervating blackberry cedar wood varnish aromas with aniseed notes. Generous vigorous sweet fruited wine with plentiful new oak and fine grainy graphite tannins. Still elemental but balanced. Massive dense graphite wine with great potential.
Antonio Galloni 95
The 2018 Pavie Macquin is voluptuous and exotic to the core. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, mocha, espresso, licorice and chocolate all race out of the glass. Pliant, supple and silky, the 2018 is lights out. This is an especially heady, flamboyant style, so readers should be prepared for a pretty intense Saint-Émilion. Krug Grand Cuvee NVLight yellow-gold. Fresh orchard fruits, lemon and toasty lees on the fragrant nose. Tightly coiled but deep in pear, quince and candied lemon flavors, with smoke and anise notes building with air. Shows an intriguing blend of richness and vivacity, finishing with strong cut and impressive smoky persistence. This bottling isn't likely to quell the dismay of Krug fanatics who sense a change of style at the house favoring finesse over power, but there's absolutely nothing wimpy about this Champagne. JOSH RAYNOLDS, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 2011
My visit to Krug in November was illuminating, as I spent several hours tasting through a number of 2008 vins claires and reserve wines with Director of the Maison Olivier Krug and Director of OEnology Eric Lebel. Although Krug ages its young wines exclusively in French oak barrels, these wines were remarkably pure and transparent; suggesting that much of the signature Krug toastiness may come from the extended period the wines spend on their lees rather than from the oak. Over the yeas many of the most monumental, mind-bending Champagnes I have had have emerged from these cellars in Reims. Krug boasts an extraordinarily rich history along with a superb track record. In a recent tasting that included most, if not all, of the top 1996s, the Krug Vintage and Clos du Mesnil were at the very top of the pack. Along with making profound wines, under the direction of the charming Olivier Krug this venerable estate has pushed the boundaries on pricing to levels never seen before. The newest wine from Krug is the 100% Pinot Noir Clos d’Ambonnay. Sadly, that wine is priced for billionaires, not mortals. Krug does not provide disgorgement dates for its wines, something which is a serious shortcoming considering the lofty prices these bottles fetch. The corks are stamped with a code which can be traced back to a disgorgement lot and date, but that will be of little use to consumers once bottles are opened. It would be great to see Krug take a leadership position among the region’s grands marques and add disgorgement dates to its labels. ANTONIO GALLONINVChampagneFrance376$370.00
Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec 2019The 2019 Sec Clos du Bourg is a wine of stature and vertical build. There is real gravitas to the orchard fruit, spice and earthy flavors. Zind Humbrecht Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Grand Cru 2018
Smoky stoniness initially fills the nose on this wine. With a little more air, pear fruitiness comes though while a flinty glint of reduction smoulders in the background. The palate comes with the gentlest sweetness and still needs to knit together. Ample fruit, great energy and immense concentration are all evident in one juicy sip. This is a powerhouse of a wine, coiled tightly and streamlined into a toned swoop. It will release its force in due course. (95) WINE ENTHUSIAST
The Rangen Grand Cru is located at the southern end of the Alsace wine road, on a very steep south facing hillside, directly over the river Thur. The Clos-Saint-Urbain takes his name from a small iconic chapel built in the middle of the vineyard. Saddly the original chapel that was built at the end of the 15th century got destroyed during the French revolution, and again during first world war. The current chapel was rebuilt after along the middle of the Clos. The soil of the Rangen is a unique volcanic sedimentary rock. Ashes and smokes from a nearby volcano sedimented under the sea and got compacted into rocks as the Vosges mountains were formed. The Rangen has the ability to dramatically influence the style of the wine. If the Riesling is an obvious choice in this vineyard, it is arguably the Pinot-Gris that actually transcends and makes one with the vineyard. If the slope, sun exposure, altitude… can explain the richness of the wines of the Rangen, it is the soil that construct their personality and character. The 2018 was harvested at the perfect ripeness, but nature being nature, the yeasts decided to leave a very small amount of sweetness in the wine -indice 2- probably also influenced by a very small amount of noble rot.
Bright intense yellow with some gold. The nose is bold, powerful, developing intense flinty aromas, smoke, wet humus… The palate is surprisingly tight and elegant. Smaller berries brought a slightly higher concentration in tannins. The wine is caressing the palate, develops a velvety structure. Beautiful harmony and bright finish. He acidity of the Rangen wines is particularly saline (volcanic rock) and this is the major taste on the finish of this wine. Grand vin, for keeping! Egly Ouriet Grand Cru Brut NVYet another striking release of this wine, this is made exclusively from Grand Cru vines predominantly in Ambonnay but also Bouzy and Verzenay. It’s 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from low-yielding, perfectly tended vines that have been harvested fully ripe. Natural fermentation was with wild yeasts only and the first period of maturation (before going to bottle) lasted almost one year, with the wine remaining on its fine lees for the whole time. The wine clarified slowly and naturally—as was once typical across the region—and as such there was no fining nor filtration. Over 50% of the wine was fermented and aged in oak casks. The dosage was at three grams per litre, so extra-brut territory.NVChampagneFrance376Special Price $238.00 Regular Price $280.00

The nose presetns with ripe honeyed, slightly toasted aromatics. One could almost feel that this wine saw some fresh oak, but no, it spent 12 months in classic old foudres which lends a lovely textured elemtent to the wine. Located at Espira in the Agly Valley, this domain was only producing fortified and dry rancio wines when Benoit Danjou took over from his father ten years ago. Five years later his brother Sebastien joined him.

Leoville Las Cases 1982Still stubbornly backward, yet beginning to budge from its pre-adolescent stage, this dense, murky ruby/purple-colored wine offers up notes of graphite, sweet caramel, black cherry jam, cassis, and minerals. The nose takes some coaxing, and the decanting of 2-4 hours prior to service is highly recommended. For such a low acid wine, it is huge, well-delineated, extremely concentrated, and surprisingly fresh. Perhaps because I lean more toward the hedonistic view of wine than the late Michel Delon, I have always preferred this to the 1986, but the truth is that any lover of classic Medoc should have both vintages in their cellar. This wine has monstrous levels of glycerin, extract, and density, but still seems very youthful, and tastes more like a 7 to 8-year-old Bordeaux than one that is past its twentieth birthday. Domaine Ostertag Riesling Clos Mathis 2014Straw-green. Reticent, soil-driven aromas of quince and chamomile, plus an incipient diesel fuel element. Rich, ripe and intensely flavored, featuring notes of green apricot, flowers and botanical herbs. Ripe and long on the back end, which features balsamic mementos. As usual, this large-scale wine tastes big, almost massive, and savory, in a Trocken Pfalz-like way compared to Ostertag’s other more Nahe-like wines. It’s also the easiest wine to recognize blind in Ostertag’s lineup, as it’s more shut down and folded onto itself when young, and larger-scale in its profile, than Ostertag’s other Rieslings (the vineyard is located in Ribeauvillé and therefore has a completely different geological origin than the other Riesling sites owned by Ostertag). The real name of this site is Hagel, which in German means “hail,” so it’s understandable that Ostertag wasn’t keen on using this name for his wine. 'Moreau's wines come highly recommended. I was smitten by the purity of fruit, fineness of tannins and their charm. Huet Vouvray Le Mont Sec 2005
The Huet 2005 Vouvray Sec Le Mont leads with quince, tangerine zest, and orange blossom, comes to the palate with great delicacy, refinement and polished texture, and displays a refreshing, shimmering interchange of orchard and citrus fruit with saline, chalky, smoky, stony minerality in its long, billowing finish. Relish this beauty DAVID SCHILDKNECHT, Wine Advocate
This wine still has a very fresh and pale hue despite its age, and is clearly still very young. The nose seems in keeping with this, showing a very minerally trait, and it feels surprisingly quite reductive in character, with smoky nuances too, and so it doesn't really show the development I would have expected in a wine of this vintage. In keeping with this it has an incredibly fresh and vibrant palate, is quite pithy, with great depth. There are some pear-fruit notes, as well as a twist of tropical fruit, but much more of that smoky minerality to be honest. This is impressive stuff. Jean Marc Bouley Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens 2016Sappy, aromatic nose combines red raspberry, cherry and smoky minerality. The silkiest and smoothest of these 2016s but with its vibrant cherry and red berry flavors given precision and lift by a firm spine of calcaire minerality. Intense, sweet and utterly suave wine with a mounting finish featuring noble tannins that reach the front teeth. This is typically a very crystalline style of wine (without the volume of Rugiens-Bas) thanks to its rocky energy, and in 2016 it maintains juiciness and precision without coming off as austere. Jaboulet Parallele 45 Cotes du Rhone Blanc 2019
Since taking over Jaboulet in 2003 the Frey family have been moving towards organics and biodynamic viticulture - not always that easy in the temperate climes of the Northern Rhone, especially at volume - yet in 2017 they achieved their goal.
To get there they have dramatically reduced yields - up to 60% less fruit per hectare now than when they took over.
The wines across the board have improved dramatically in quality and their entry level Cotes du Rhone both red and white are no exception. These are amazing quality for the amount of wine made and the price. Huet Vouvray Le Mont Sec 2019The 2019 Sec Le Mont is precise and beautifully cut. A wine of laser-like focus, Le Mont dazzles with its purity. May Premium Pack 2021 - Alternative Burgundy Pack
There is no doubt that the prices in Burgundy are starting to move beyond what us mere mortals can afford. So, to remedy the situation we have put together a cracking compliment of great burgundy from a selection of the regions underrated regions.
The slightly warmer reached of Burgundies south offer an up a diverse set of topographies and soils that are the perfect foil for pinot. These are regions that fly under the radar and while they may not be getting the attention they deserve they are producing some fantastic pinot with real character and charm.
These ‘satellite’ appellations, as they are often referred too, are coming into there own and with savvy winemakers and growers recognising the awesome potential now has never been a better a better time to explore.
We start with Marsannay and along with Santenay probably one of the better know quality producers of pinot outside of the most famous villages of the Cote de Nuit. In style it resembles its close neighbours in Fixin and Gevrey Chambertin with a morello cherry attack, black currant fruits and a mellow and generous body that often flows into a meaty, savoury finish.
The wines of Collotte already offer incredible value and given the quality of the two plots of limestone rich soil this comes off as an impressive wine. The husband-and-wife team use only a touch of new oak on there more premium cuvees allowing a purity and sense of sauvage to shine through here their other cuvees.
Fruther south Santenay and Auxey Duresses are also close neighbours and remain a part of the Cote-de-beaune. Santenay sits off to the far southern tip with Auxey nestled in between Volnay, Mersault and Puligny Montrachet.
Auxey includes 9 premiere crus with its mid-weight black and red fruits often off-set by some velvety, fine boned but moderate tannins. The Domaine Florence Cholet wines harness this beautifully with grace and charm. The wines have incredible buoyancy and racy-ness that is hard to not be a little taken by – fantastic stuff
Santennay follows in the footsteps of the Beaune with soft and round edges to the wines and a floral lift reminiscent of the wines of Volnay. They are a touch more supple in their nature then their northern cousins but with a slight more wild fruit profile.
Abbaye de Santenay are firmly focused on the vineyards where Ludovic and his team maintain the vines in a rigorous way to obtain high quality fruit. The philosophy of the domaine is to get the best of the terroirs, respecting nature and preserving the finesse of the wines.
Further south in the Cote Chalonnaise as the land broadens out and the sun gently warms the rolling hills. Its like of top-quality sites when compared to its cousins in the north is more than made up by its consistent quality and excellent value.
Mercurey in particular is amongst one of the best villages to source and even producers such as Faiveley have actively been involved in the region for decades, recognising the potential for quality. It bears a few premier cru sites that sit in best positions and offers up some of the more full bodied firmer wines, particularly in their youth.$349.00 Regular Price $415.00
Giscours 2008 375ml
Tasted at the Château Giscours vertical, the 2008 Château Giscours is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot picked between September 30 and October 1. The bouquet is very well defined with ebullient red berry fruit mixed with orange peel and cedar aromas. There is something that distantly echoes a Côte de Beaune! Perhaps the purity on offer here? The palate is very well balanced with a keen line of acidity, very fine tannins and ample freshness. I loved this Giscours from barrel and it is now living up to my expectations. The terroir shines through on this wine - true Margaux. This is an excellent wine from winemaker Alexandre Van Beek. Tasted June 2015. Ulithorne Corsus Vermentinu 2012
Made by Rose Kentish at the Vino Vecchio winery in Corsica (French-governed island west of Italy / southeast of France). I don’t much love the price but three releases in – I do love the wine itself. Super drinking. Gorgeously aromatic and, most of all, textural. It’s an experience. Melon, wax, citrus, brine, honeydew and honeysuckle. Thoroughly delicious. Les Fiefs de Lagrange 201824 bottles available at time of offer
The 2018 Les Fiefs de Lagrange is absolutely gorgeous. Hints of iron, smoke, cedar, dried flower and blood orange infuse this succulent, racy second wine. All the elements fall into place. The purity of fruit and overall sense of harmony are both commendable at this level. What a beautiful wine this is. ANTONIO GALLONI2018Cabernet BlendsFrance356$75.00 As low as $67.50
Faiveley Beaune Clos de lEcu 2019 1erAromas of plums, rich forest floor, warm spices and smoked meats introduce the 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Écu Monopole, a medium-bodied, bright and elegant wine that's satiny and melting, with lively acids and fine, powdery tannins. Las Cepas de Curro 2018
This wine, hailing from the Jerez/Sherry region of Spain, is composed of Moscatel and Palomino. Strong minerality on the nose and the palate, with a floral, citrusy bouquet make this a pleasure to drink. Its freshness coupled with a bit of texture on the palate speak to the care taken in the vinification and to the quality of the wine. Astoundingly good value. PWS2018France418$20.00 As low as $18.00

Jean-Marc Burgaud Villages Les Vignes de Lantignie 2019
The vines in this monopole are 55 years old, planted in sandy topsoil over granite at a density of 10,000 per hectare. Whole-berry, semi-carbonic maceration for seven days, then aged in concrete for six months. Burgaud says: "The 12th century Chateau de Thulon, my great aunt’s property, is in one of the best villages due to its hillsides and granite soil. It produces a bright red wine with a fresh and fruity nose. Best drunk within two years of release.
This wine was named in Wine Advocate's top 100 discoveries of 2020.
Offering up pretty aromas of blackberries, peonies and subtle forest floor, the 2019 Beaujolais-Villages Les Vignes de Lantignié is medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with lively acids, velvety tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish. As usual, this saw a short six- or seven-day maceration with whole clusters, followed by élevage in cement tank. Once again, Burgaud has produced a characterful and viscerally drinkable Beaujolais-Villages that exemplifies all the merits – as well as the incredible value – offered by the appellation at its best.
