Ray Nadeson writes some of the most lyrical wine labels going. His hope with this wine is to reveal tannins that feel 'like you are melting into a soft cushion'. Well, they are certainly supple. A big proponent of whole-bunch fermentation, his '19 is striking in its structure and force of personality, with an imposing herbal imprint, chocolate cherry and red berries. It’s a cranberried wine. Washy. Spicy too, gently autumnal, smoky, fleshed with red cherries, just a little reductive. A pinch of this and a pinch of that. The 2016 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard, from Anderson Valley, is the most accessible and open of these Pinots. Bright red cherry, plum and orange peel are all nicely pushed forward. The 2019 Pinot Noir Estate Ama is a rich, ample wine. Rose petal, blood orange sweet red cherry. Racy, succulent and perfumed, the Ama is one of the most approachable Pinots in this range, as it so often is. In 2019, the Ama is marked by a strong red cherry, blood orange and spice character. Ridge’s 2017 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a fabulous choice for readers who want a Monte Bello fix now, without having to wait. Supple, radiant and silky, with tremendous balance, the 2017 is just flat-out delicious and utterly irresistible. Dark red cherry/plum fruit, mocha, licorice, sweet tobacco and a kick of American oak build as this sumptuous Cabernet Sauvignon shows its allure. The 2017 is an outrageously beautiful wine. 95% Cabernet Sauvignon; 3% Cabernet Franc; 2% Petit Verdot. The fruit is from Two Wolves and Right Left vineyards; soils of Chamise shaly loam and Positas fine sandy loam. The fruit was 100% destemmed and hand sorted. We fermented this lot in oak rotary fermenters, open-top oak barrels, and a stainless-steel closed top tank. The rotaries were spun 2-3 times a day and the other fermentations received daily punch downs. The wine spent an average of 30 days on skins before being gently pressed into 50% new French oak barrels for maturation. Smells like sunshine after the rain. So much going on! Tension, beauty, flowers and spice. Green herbal notes of eucalyptus and sage, camphor, sweet vanilla cream wafers, lemon verbena. – ALECIA MOORE

History is littered with the small and mighty. Those that their physical stature did nothing to stop them from putting their mark on the world. With that in mind, we have put together the August mixed dozen with a cracking array of half bottles. These are perfect for a little mid-week treat or to share with a friend when just a quick glass and a laugh are all you need. They are also the perfect late evening wedge to satiate that Saturday thirst for something a little fun or a little special in the wee hours.

We are pretty proud of our half-bottle selection here and we think it is one the best in the land but it's getting harder and harder to find them. So, we have done all the hard work and crammed them into one great pack just for you.
