Wicks Estate is a family owned and operated wine company producing hand crafted wines from their vineyard located at Woodside in the picturesque Adelaide Hills. This premier cool climate wine growing regions is perfect for pinot and the team at wicks have crafted a wonderful example here of what the Adelaide Hills can do when treated right.

This is multiple clones and multiple batches all fermented separately and all of the Woodside Vineyard site. Bright and airy on the nose with that white pepper spice from the whole berry ferments. There is a lovely zip to the palate that carries the core of punchy fruit beautifully. A little bit of spice, crunchy fruits, some fine tannin all come together to give this a bouncy and buoyant feel. This is a nice little chisel and texture here something you don't normally expect from a wine at this price. Really well done.

The Phaeton is a blend of fruit from two vineyards in the Piccadilly Valley. The first site lies at 520 meters altitude outside the town of Piccadilly below Mount Lofty. The second vineyard, also with an easterly aspect but in Ashton, sits on a steep slope at 560 meters on rather shallow sandstone and hard soils. Natural yields are extremely low, providing fruit with structure and persistence.

Each parcel separately, both with a portion of whole berries and whole bunches (30%). The wine was raised in mostly French oak puncheons and barrique (approximately 10% new) for nine months, then bottled without fining or filtration.

A single vineyard, Adelaide Hills Syrah. 100% whole bunch. Wild ferment. 30 cases produced.

Hand-picked, open-fermented, basket-pressed, matured in a single French hogshead for 15 months. Doesn't seem it was a new hogshead, but 1yo. The colour is excellent, the wine a compelling mix of luscious dark fruits, finely tuned tannins and oak providing texture and balance. (95) JAMES HALLIDAY
