He calls the book “a true, impartial, detailed, and documented photograph of the official recognized great Barolo vineyards.” But of course it is much more than that. It is a compilation of all the information he has unearthed over the past 20 years, as he unlocks the mysteries of why Barolo's soil produces such profound wines.

As for putting it into book form, that took a full eight years. And the result is a handsome 408-page, hardcover volume that should grace the library of anyone who loves Barolo.

Encyclopedic in its Scope
Barolo MGA includes more than 200 3-D images of the region's vineyards; 11 in-depth analyses of the individual communes; 170 fact sheets on each cru and a directory (with contact information) of growers and producers.
