  1. Festa del Barolo Stars Risen and Rising Dinner 2022
Festa del Barolo Stars Risen and Rising Dinner 2022

The Langhe Hills are home to the super stars of Nebbiolo. The great Barolo houses are now as keenly sought after as the Grand Cru Burgundies on the other side of the Alps. In recent years that has meant the opprtunities to taste them as a group is becoming rarer and rare all the time.

To celebrate our return to Festa dal Barolo dinners after a three year lay off, we've raided the cellar and put together a who's who of the greats of Barolo dinner. Altare, Rinaldi, Cappellano, G Conterno, Vietti, Bartolo and Giuseppe Mascarello, E. Pira, Roagna are all part of a superb and seldom seen lineup. Largely covering 2017 and 2018 vintages, taking account of what we've missed the last couple of years, but also featuring a couple of older things as well.

We've match that up with a brilliant menu created by Nicky Riemer especially for the night. All the wines and the menu are listed below.

  2. Yalumba Supper with chief red winemaker KG
Yalumba Supper with chief red winemaker KG

Kevin Glastonbury is in charge on making the premium reds at Yalumba. With 40 years winemaking experience in the Barossa he includes the 2011 Yalumba The Tri-Centenary Grenache amongst his career highlights (the competition is stiff considering he also makes The Reserve, The Octavious and The Signature). Grenache has captivated his attention of late. With a nose at finding some of the best parcels of old vine grenache within the region and a sensitive mind in handling the fruit, the breed of grenache's coming out of Yalumba are simply splendid.

Join us as we take a look at both current and cellar releases of his trio of grenache - Bush Vine, Vine Vale and The Tri-Centenary, which includes the 2011 Tri-Centenary. To finish we've thrown in a few Chateauneuf du Pape to see how the French are holding up.

  3. Quinta do Noval Masterclass with David Betti - Melbourne
Quinta do Noval Masterclass with David Betti - Melbourne

Quinta do Noval is an astonishing wine estate, with a rare combination of deep history and innovation. Founded in 1715, it has changed hands just twice over 300 years. The most important thing to understand about Quinta do Noval is, that unlike the other famous names in the world of Port, Noval is a single estate, a single vineyard, a producer that controls every step of production from vine to bottle. The much larger Port houses buy most of their fruit and therefore cannot control the viticulture (except at any Quintas they own). They also make wine in far larger volumes which, as we know, has its cons.

The 150 hectares of mostly high-altitude, high-density vineyards are predominantly on unforgiving schist rock, producing very low yields of the best fruit imaginable. Controlling every aspect of the vineyard work is an obvious advantage for Noval, while the attention to detail in the cellar is second to none. In another demonstration of their commitment to local ground, Noval was the first Port producer to move their entire winery and warehousing to the Douro Valley, centralising production among the hillside vineyards rather than downstream at the quays of Vila Nova de Gaia with the rest of the Port community

We are very excited to announce that we have David Betti from Quinta Do Noval joining us to host a masterclass featuring an incredible line up of bottlings from this legendary estate. Across three brackets, accompanied with some light snacks and maybe a morsel of stilton or two, David will take you through a deep dive into the exceptional bottlings produced at Quinta Do Noval from their tawnys, vintage and LBV releases and finishing with trio of back vintage Colheita.

Tickets are $165 with places limited to just 18 guests.
