A Very special dinner highlighting the 2018s from Jean-Marc Pillot and Robert Groffier. Thursday 18th of March

Jean-Marc Pillot
He is a trained oenologist and has propelled the domaine into the top rank of Chassagne producers. Unfortunately demand for his wines has soared worldwide and as a result, stocks are limited. Buy while stocks remain! These wines seem to possess everything – richness and depth of fruit, the classic firmness of a great Chassagne and a long, smooth and harmonious finish. JASPER MORRIS MW

Robert Groffier
I have been feting the winemaking of Nicolas Groffier for three or four years now. Where once the domaine had a penchant for rather over-extracted wines, Nicolas has navigated a different course with completely different wines: elegant, full of tension and completely respectful of their terroirs. NEIL MARTIN

The Groffier family are among the best wine makers in the Côte de Nuits. PEARL OF BURGUNDY

Our first VIP dinner of 2021 (and in some time) and we are kicking off with a bang. A small, intimate dinner with an incredible bracket of new releases from two of Burgundy’s great estates, Jean-Marc Pillot (Chassagne-Montrachet) and Robert Groffier (Morey St-Denis). The dinner will focus on four brackets, two from each producer, and looking at the wines that have made these domaines the super stars they are today.

Jean-Marc Pillot is probably well known to most of our customers now. This Chassagne based estate is run by Jean-Marc, with increasing involvement of his son Antonin, out of their utilitarian facility on the outskirts of town. Far from the romantic, underground caves we all imagine, Pillot’s winery was purpose built to give him everything he needs to craft the finest wines in Chassagne, which he does.

Everything at this estate is seen to with the most fanatical approach to detail you can imagine. Everything in the right place and at the right time. The results are nothing short of spectacular and Jean-Marc has built a reputation as one of the region’s great modern talents. His wines as careful and meticulous and the man himself.

The wines of Robert Groffier may not be on everyone’s radar here but they are one of the true greats of the Cote de Nuits. A few critically important facts to take in to account when considering these wines, Groffier owns some of the best patches in some of the greatest climats on the Cote. The family are widely regarded as one of the region’s most dedicated vignerons, often being compared to the likes of Denis Mortet for their dedication to their vineyards. The third, and equally important consideration is the recent shift in style here. Like so many of the region’s super stars there has been a move away from the more blocky and extracted wines of old and towards a more transparent and site focused expression of Burgundy. Today they are utterly gorgeous and compelling expressions of some of the greatest vineyards on the planet.

The dinner will include a very special menu from Nicky Reimer, to be announced soon, and includes four brackets of the best of these two remarkable estates, listed below. It is a “best foot forward” event. A dinner to celebrate, hopefully, the return to our usual run of producer focused events.

Places are limited to ten VIPs and are $595 a head. Dinner will kick off at 6:30pm on Thursday the 18th of March and we really hope you can make it.
