  1. Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2015 1500ml
Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2015 1500ml

The 2015 Cotes du Rhone marks a terrific return to form for this cuvée. It’s intense and peppery, with concentrated black cherry fruit, a medium to full-bodied palate and a long finish. JOE CZERWINSHI robertparker.com

The 2015 Côtes du Rhône checks in as a final blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre. It offers a juicy, Syrah-driven bouquet of ripe blackberry fruits, smoked meats, pepper, and hints of underbrush as well as a rich, medium to full-bodied, polished style on the palate. It has ripe tannin, plenty of mid-palate depth... it’s a beautiful Côtes du Rhône that will deliver the goods. JEB DUNNUCK

Very flashy, glossy Syrah on the nose. Bit of treacle but great richness too. Great gloss and balance. Racy. Energetic. This doesn’t taste very like southern Rhône! They specialise in buying lots which others don’t want. They seek slow-maturing well-structured Syrahs. This will be a huge hit! JANCIS ROBINSON

  2. Head Red Shiraz 2016 1500ml
    Head Red Shiraz 2016 1500ml

Alex Head's annual 'best value Barossa Valley I can make'. A deeply coloured wine with plenty of savoury tannin backbone, but more than sufficient black fruits to put flesh on the bones, and finishes brightly. JAMES HALLIDAY

More good juicy and affordable Shiraz from Heady.

Plump, succulent and floral thing, with a brown spices, blackberries and assorted stonefruits. Medium to full bodied, a slight meatiness, but pretty much a silky and approachable Barossa Shiraz that slips down pretty nicely. GARY WALSH, The Wine Front

    Proud Rose 2017 2L Flagon
Grown with biological and sustainable farming practices, hand picked and whole bunch pressed to barrel for wild yeast ferment. A blend of 60% Shiraz and 40% Chardonnay. Full malolactic fermentation elevaged in old french hogsheads. Aromas of strawberry and fresh red fruits. Crunchy red berries on the palate. Textural wines with bright natural acid and 2% residual sugar for texture and drinkability. STUART PROUD

  4. Charvin Cotes du Rhone Le Poutet 2017 1500ml
Charvin Cotes du Rhone Le Poutet 2017 1500ml
Always so consistently good from one the regions safest bets. Almost exclusively Grenache with a touch of Shiraz and Mourvedre. Seems to deliver year after year and the 2017 is on form.

Ripe, fleshy, almost juicy expression of fruit with plenty regional garrigue, fennel seeds, star anise but also just so much lovely raspberry and strawberry notes. Plumpens (that even a word) up at the end and has the most important thing in great wine, it is unbelievably moreish. PWS

  5. Head Wines The Contrarian Syrah Marananga 2014 1500ml
Head Wines The Contrarian Syrah Marananga 2014 1500ml
From Marananga and less contrarian than it used to be. Apparently men get more conservative as they age, and women become more radical, liberal.
Boysenberry and dark cherry, that exotic Chinese five spice thing going on, pastis and some dark chocolate. Medium bodied, fluid and smooth, with a crunch to the acidity and a gentle graininess to the firm tannin. Has some salt beef flavours in there that you see in a lot of modern Barossa Shiraz, though they don’t bother me so much in this wine. Needs a year or two to soften, like a good pair of jeans. Just over the line for a 94 point finish. GARY WALSH winefront.com.au May 2015

  6. Chateau Montlandrie 2016 1500ml
    Chateau Montlandrie 2016 1500ml

    CASTILLON-CÔTES DE BORDEAUX

The 2016 Montlandrie is a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon picked between 3-17 October. It was picked at 40 hectoliters per hectare and raised in 60% new oak (although my sample was from a one-year-old barrel). It is the first vintage to include more than 80% of the vines that were planted by Denis Durantou after 2008. This has a more broody bouquet than the two Lalande-de-Pomerols, just a touch of leafiness originating from the Cabernet Sauvignon that enhances the complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure, more saline than the Les Cruzelles, backward at the moment, but the Cabernets impart some lovely graphite notes on the saline finish. Superb. Expect this to land towards the top of my banded score once in bottle. (91-93) NEAL MARTIN

The 2016 Montlandrie is powerful and bold to its core. Layers of dense, dark fruit, chocolate, lavender spice and sweet oak saturate the palate. Dense and voluptuous, this racy wine from Denis Durantou is packed and ready to deliver maximum pleasure upon release. Tasted two times. (88-91) ANTONIO GALLONI

Patrick Piuze Chablis Terroir de Chablis 2018 1500mL
    ONLY BOTTLED IN MAGNUMS
From north-facing plots, adjacent to Vaillons and Forets. Quite exotic with fresh, ripe apricot and mango aromas, leading to a full-ish palate that’s really fleshy and packed with flavor. Open and so delicious. NICK STOCK, jamessuckling.com

The 2018 Chablis Terroir de Chablis shows the more exotic, tropical side of the year - qualities that are further amplified by clay-rich soils in this parcel that give the wine its breadth. Creamy and generous, the 2018 will drink well upon release. Dried orchard fruit and flinty notes add character. This distinctive wine really stands out among the village bottlings in the range. 8. Andre Clouet Silver Brut 1500ml
    Andre Clouet Silver Brut 1500ml

Andre Clouet Silver NV. A beautiful example of a zero dosage Champagne. With 100% Pinot noir this wine has great structure and richness. Fresh cut strawberries, stone fruits and hints of brioche present on the nose.
On the palate a racey and and fresh acidity is complimented by red berry fruits, pink lady apple and peach with fine creamy bubbles. Brioche and a nutty aftertaste persist long after the wine has left your mouth. A brut natural worth sharing. BILLY PWS

Jean-Francois Clouet's zero-dosage ideal is realised with magnificent clarity here.  Such is the concentration and richness of his pinot noir that it has absolutely no need for any sweetness.  The bouquet is delightfully fresh, lifted, pure and expressive, with lemon zest, yellow mirabelle plums and red apple fruits.  The palate follows impeccably, showcasing the concentration of Bouzy with exceptional purity and focus.  Its barrel work blends impeccably contributing nuances of nougat, brioche and honey.  Succulent yellow summer fruits pull seamlessly into a crunchy finish of red apple and lemon zest, concluding long and refined, with refreshingly taut acidity and soft, chalky minerality.  Classic Bouzy of the finest order.  TYSON STELZER, The Champagne Guide 2014-2015

    Sociando Mallet 2015 1500ml
One of the standouts of the vintage, the 2015 Sociando Mallet is all finesse. Light on its feet, gracious and super-expressive, the 2015 speaks to class above all else. The flavors are bright and beautifully lifted in this polished, sophisticated Haut-Médoc. Although a touch light, the 2015 is very pretty. The blend is 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. 90  ANTONIO GALLONI

  10. Andre Clouet Rose No.3 NV 1500ml
Andre Clouet Rose No.3 NV 1500ml

100% Bouzy and Ambonnay pinot noir; 2012 base vintage
Jean-Francois 'Clouet No 3' was inspired by Coco Chanel, the number introduced for the first time this year to denote the style, recognising that the colour is different each year, and with the number 3 representing a light,  elegant aperitif style.  Elegance and freshness are his goals for rose, avoiding what he describes as the 'full, rustic and heavy" styles of the past.

Clouet's rose epitomises elegance and focus, while flamboyantly celebrating the generous red cherry, strawberry, watermelon and pink pepper fruit of Bouzy.  It encapsulates that wonderful talent of pinot noir to build and rise on the finish, all the while retaining graceful precision as delicate as rose petal perfume.  Structure is fine and elegant, driven both by chalk minerality of the village and a very finely executed tannin presence.  It finishes with great length and poise of exquisite red cherry fruit.  A pristine and enticingly priced rose. Older disgorgements have taken on savoury suggestions of tamarillo, while upholding their primary integrity.  TYSON STELZER

  11. Pierre Peters Cuvee de Reserve Brut NV Magnum
Pierre Peters Cuvee de Reserve Brut NV Magnum

Rodolphe Péters took over the reins of this venerable estate in the southern Côte des Blancs in 2008, becoming the fourth generation to lead since the estate was founded in 1919. Today, the estate is over 18 hectares of vineyards, with a majority of the vineyards in the grand cru of Les Mesnil-sur-Oger.

Rodolphe's wines have cult status around the world and his skills as chef de cave have few equals. The subtle, sleek and elegant wines are marked by their fine acidity and prominent minerality, yet never come off as austere or thin, they are vibrant, alive, and perfectly balanced. PWS

A precise, crystalline wine, the NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve is the perfect wine with which to explore the Péters Champagnes. Lemon peel white, flowers and slate are super-expressive throughout in a Champagne that impresses with its finely-sculpted personality and energy. The Cuvée de Réserve is quite powerful, but never heavy. Slightly tropical overtones add the final shades of nuance. The Cuvée de Réserve draws on fruit sources outside Mesnil. It remains one of the best values in artisan Champagne. ANTONIO GALLONI

    Haut Bages Liberal 2016 1500ml

    PAUILLAC - 5th Growth

The 2016 Haut-Bages Libéral has turned out beautifully. Rose petals, lavender and sweet red cherry are some of the notes that grace this fine, translucent Pauillac. Medium in body and precise, with exquisite finesse and nuance, the 2016 is incredibly expressive today. This is a fabulous showing from proprietor Claire Villars Lurton. (95) ANTONIO GALLONI

  13. Gianfranco Alessandria Barolo San En Piasi Magnum 2017
Gianfranco Alessandria Barolo San En Piasi Magnum 2017
The 2017 Barolo EnPiasì is such a pleasure to taste. A whole range of floral and savory nuances open first, suggesting the presence of whole clusters, even though the wine is made entirely from grapes that have been destemmed by hand. Silky, nuanced and beautifully persistent in the glass, the 2017 is a Barolo of pure and total finesse. I would prefer to drink it over the next 10-15 years, a bit of youthful Nebbiolo tannin notwithstanding, as it would be a shame to miss out on the extraordinary purity of fruit that is present at this stage. Vietti Barolo Castiglione 2017 1500mL
The 2017 Barolo Castiglione is a wild, exotic wine. Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch, cinnamon, tobacco, new leather and rose petal all flesh out in this ample, voluptuous Barolo from Vietti. The 2017 is a wine of significant heft hidden behind a wall of tannin. Give it a few years to soften or open it well in advance. Time brings out striking translucence as well as finesse. Gianfranco Alessandria Barolo San En Piasi Magnum 2016
The 2016 Barolo San enPiAsi is quite possibly the most elegant and finessed wine I have ever tasted at Alessandria. It was done with hand-destemmed fruit and saw a longer period of time on the skins than the other Barolos, about 15-20 days. Aromatic, floral and beautifully lifted, this mid-weight, gracious Barolo is ethereal and so wonderfully inviting, with exceptional balance and tons of sheer class. ANTONIO GALLONI

Henri Gouges Nuits Les St Georges 2017 1er
    1 BOTTLE LIMIT
There is just enough wood to merit mentioning framing the aromas of plum liqueur, black raspberry, warm earth and a touch of the sauvage. There is excellent intensity to the overtly powerful and more mineral-driven medium weight flavors that culminate in a beautifully long and complex if markedly austere finish. This is even a bit firmer than the Vaucrains and as collectors of the Gouges wines know well, this will not make for especially accessible early drinking. "OUTSTANDING" BURGHOUND

  17. E. Pira Barolo Chiara Boschis Via Nuova 2017 Magnum
    E. Pira Barolo Chiara Boschis Via Nuova 2017 Magnum
The 2017 Barolo Via Nuova is stellar. In 2017, the Via Nuova is a bit nervous, the sign of a Barolo that is going to need a number of years to unwind. Bright red-toned fruit, chalk, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper add pretty aromatic top notes. As always, the Via Nuova is the most taut Barolo in the range. Via Nuova is a blend of seven vineyard sites; Terlo, Paiagallo and Liste (in Barolo); Ravera and Mosconi (in Monforte); and Gabutti and Baudana (in Serralunga).  ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous
