  1. Weihenstephaner Dunkel 500ml
    Weihenstephaner Dunkel 500ml

Our dark wheat beer is impressive with its creamy white foam. A fruity-fresh sweetness and hints of mature bananas harmonise with delicious flavours of roasted malt, sparkling and full-bodied with a light caramel taste on the first sip. An excellent accompaniment from hearty meals and game to chocolate and nut desserts. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

  2. Gunderloch Fritz Riesling 2020
    Gunderloch Fritz Riesling 2020

How do they do it? This has been a PWS favourite for some time now and it never fails to deliver. Made by Rheinhessen legends Gunderloch with vineyards  close to the Rhines south-east steep slopes. The combination of the red slate soil, the proximity to the river, the exposure to the sun and the steepness of the vineyards - are perfect for producing wonderful ripeness. If you are a German riesling fan it would be hard to beat this for the sheer quality and insane value it represents.

The wine shows lovely stone fruit, peach and pithy characters as it opens in the glass. There is a salty mineral hit to that is really lovely. The fresh natural acidity zip through the ripe and spice flecked palate while a little aromatic lift gives this some real interest. Dry, fresh and full of character. PWS

  3. Markus Molitor Haus Klosterberg Riesling 1 Liter Dry 2019
Markus Molitor Haus Klosterberg Riesling 1 Liter Dry 2019

The wine of the year, usually causes me a good deal of anxiety. Oh the pressure…. There was a lot of competition this year too. Despite spending so much time locked in the house I still managed to find an excuse to drink well. Or maybe that was my excuse. Chicken or the egg kind of scenario there.
I digress. I looked in to this and I have purchased 7.2% of the total volume of this wine that PWS has sold so far. I don't think many weeks have gone by since this was released that I haven't had one in the fridge. In recent times it has been shared liberally with friends, neighbours and family.
What makes this my wine of the year? First it is 1 litre. That plays a key role in my thinking. Secondly its stupendously good, uber fresh, textural, dry, saline, appealing, brimming with charm, buoyant and playful. So totally delicious that you kind of forget that for a wine of this category the quality is outstanding. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, for the quality that it does deliver this is insane value. Ok, also it's one litre, did I mention that? ROSCOE

  4. Georg Breuer Rudesheim Estate Riesling 2016
Georg Breuer Rudesheim Estate Riesling 2016
The 2016 Rheingau Riesling Rüdesheim "Estate" is super clear, bright and elegant on the nose, with lovely stony-mineral notes, almost stone dust but also beautiful concentration. On the palate, this is a round, juicy, very fruity but clear, piquant, well-structured and finely mineral Rheingau classic at 11.5% alcohol. It drinks perfectly today and will also do so over the next 15 to 20 years. Sweetness and acidity are in perfect balance here (8.4 grams per litre). A highly filigreed and delicate Riesling. 5. Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese Dry 2019
Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese Dry 2019
The green-yellow colored 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese (White Capsule) is a beauty! Highly refined flint stone and crunchy slate notes highlight the perfectly ripe yet delicate and fresh Riesling aromas. Full-bodied, intense and racy-piquant on the palate, with the vibrant freshness of natural CO2 and the deep roots of old vines, this is an elegant, dense and dramatically tight yet mouth-filling and perfectly balanced Sonnenuhr with lingering salinity and slatey grip. A fabulous wine… STEPHAN REINHARDT

  6. Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett 2020
Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett 2020

Did somebody say aperitif? Effusive white-peach, honeysuckle and vanilla-bean aromas pour from the glass of this Kabinett. A very juicy wine with wonderful lightness and mineral freshness. An ideal partner for conversation. Drink or hold. Screw cap. JAMES SUCKLING, jamessuckling.com

It offers a beautifully aromatic and ripe yet elegant nose of yellow peach, pear, orange blossom, apricot flower, grapefruit, cardamom, and bergamot. The wine coats the palate with ample juicy and ripe yet fresh yellow fruits and leaves a fresh and nicely zesty feel in the fruity-styled and comparatively light and truly Kabinett-styled finish. This Kabinett proves superbly fruity and, at the same time, beautifully structured. THE MOSEL REPORT

  7. Heymann Lowenstein Schieferterrassen Riesling 2019
    Heymann Lowenstein Schieferterrassen Riesling 2019

The 2019 Riesling Schieferterrassen opens with a clear, intense, floral, herbal and finely slatey bouquet that is the most beautiful, complex and refined I have ever had from this wine. Löwensstein's 2019s are so generously open yet at the same time so precise and authentic, without any reduction stealing the show. There is a coolish and flinty tone that makes this a Mosel and no Alsace Riesling. Generous yet refined and frisky on the palate, this as medium-bodied, fresh, salty-crystalline and highly stimulating dry Riesling with a lot of character and fine grip on the finish. STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate

Where HL succeed so well is in the texture they coax out of their wines, that and the more open and inviting framework that can offer so much appeal through such a broad drinking window. In recent years they have also managed to find a good degree more nervosity and verve. Today the wines are the absolute pinnacle of dry Mosel. The 2019 is the best rendition of this I have seen so far, that is no small call from me as I am a noted devotee of Heymann Lowenstein. There is more than ample volume, weight and intensity to the reasonably broad scaled and intense fruit which is punctuated by slatey, pithy, tactile elements that buffer the palate against that piercing acidity. It's got tremendous appeal and plenty of detail. A beguilingly fresh and wonderfully enticing example of one of my favourite expressions in most years. The length is more than noteworthy and throughout that long, caressing line it carries a bundle of energy that leaves your palate quivering. This is an absolute must have. Drink it now or over the next ten years or so. Wonderful booze. Drinking it will make you a better person. ROSCOE

  8. Richter Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese 2018
Richter Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese 2018
Stunning purity of fruit here, ranging from fresh lemons to yuzu to limes and then loads of iron filings and gun flint. The medium sweetness, interlocked with taut citrus and stone fruit, gives an impression of an embellished, intricately woven texture, and there’s loads of density and energy. Very detailed and sleek on the finish. STUART PIGOTT

From 30- to 40-year-old vines, the 2018 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese is flinty, precise and reductive on the coolish nose, with discreet and fine (but lush!) pineapple aromas and very fine notes of crushed, smooth slate. On the palate, this is a clear, fresh, lush, highly finessed, piquant and salty Riesling with very tannins and lingering salinity and piquancy. This is a fabulous Spätlese with piquant finesse and mineral tension that seems to be familiar with that of the Scharzhofberger and the Euchariusberg. I can hardly imagine any better Spätlese from 2018. (96) DAVID SCHILDKNECHT, Wine Advocate

  9. Selbach Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese 2015
Selbach Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese 2015
The 2015 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese seems not as clear and brilliant on the nose as the corresponding Schlossberg and Badstube in the first moments, but this changes after a while in the glass when it becomes more clear and flinty. Full-bodied, lush and mouth-filling this is a very sweet but also mineral and piquant Spätlese with a fine acidity and a lingering salinity. This is a very rich, but firmly structured Spätlese that comes along as an Auslese and should be aged for 15 or 20 years to show all its talents. STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate

  10. Richter Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese 2017
Richter Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese 2017
From the very old part of the vineyard that was planted in 1890 and picked with 15% to 20% clean botrytis, the 2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese offers a deep, intense and concentrated yet very clear and elegant bouquet of apricot and mirabelle confiture, orange tea and crushed slate. Round, perfectly balanced and elegant on the palate, this is a very complex, long and mature Wehlener Sonnenuhr with a silky-crystalline texture and a seductive, mouth-filling and persistently salty finish. The botrytis gives texture, concentration and expression as well as a good portion of sensuality. This is where Alsace kisses the Mosel. A gorgeous wine. (95+) STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate

Selbach Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese* 2016

The 2016 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese * offers an incredible, gorgeously fine bouquet of weathered slate and perfectly ripe, healthy Riesling berries with just a touch of honey. On the palate, this is a highly finessed and piquant Riesling with great elegance and exotic fruit aromas. The finish is long, piquant and precise, well-structured and firm, but at the same time, it tickles the palate like wine from no other vineyard can do. What an impressive wine! 12. Markus Molitor Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese ** 2019
Markus Molitor Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese ** 2019
The yellow-golden 2019 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese ** (Golden Capsule) is brilliantly clear yet also intense and concentrated on the pure, fresh, finely raisined and herbal (rosemary), slightly honeyed nose that is complex and ambitious. Dense and juicy, with a vivacious purity and great finesse, this is a concentrated, vibrantly fresh and tightly structured Auslese with a remarkably digestible finish. There might be some percentage of botrytis that gives this Auslese a lush texture that is otherwise terribly clear and vital. I'd keep it for at least 7 years and up to 40, if only I could. Attention, though, the wine has serious acidity. STEPHAN REINHARDT

Markus Molitor Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Auslese ** Dry 2019
The lime-green-golden 2019 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese ** (White Capsule) is deep, intense and concentrated yet elegant and still precise and flinty on the nose. The attack on the palate is stunningly young and vital before the elegant and crystalline wine reveals its complexity and inner power. This is a tightly structured, very digestible and still edgy Auslese that needs another 5-6 years or so to settle and shine. This 2019 is enormously salty on the finish and highly promising STEPHAN REINHARDT

  14. Egon Muller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett 2018
Egon Muller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett 2018
Purple plum is laced with mint on the nose, and those two elements serve for a succulent and subtly cooling effect on the glossy, polished palate. Tangy plum skin, piquant plum pit and a hint of seedy red raspberry serve for invigoration critical to pushing back against unusually high residual sugar, but without diminishing the sense of richness that is engendered on first sip. “I believe some casks would have benefited from fermenting a bit further,” noted Müller, but the fermentations simply petered out. As a result – though, naturally, must weights in the low 90s are also contributory – nearly 60 grams of residual sugar remain in the finished wine. The impressively sustained finish is amply refreshing as well as transparent to smoky and stony nuances. DAVID SCHILDKNECHT, Vinous

  15. Egon Muller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett 2019
Egon Muller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett 2019
Müller's 2019 Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett opens with a bright, ripe and finely slatey bouquet. Round and lush on the palate, this is a medium-bodied, mouth-filling, charming and  balanced Kupp Kabinett with ripe, elegant, crystalline and salty acidity and fine grip on the aromatic, well-structured finish. The 2019 already drinks dangerously well as an aperitif, but it is made to be cellared and then served with food in about 15-20 years. STEPHEN RHEINHARDT, The Wine Advocate
