    Finca Las Moras Malbec 2020
What a belter of a drop! Mulberry and black currant to the fore with and engaging wild herb edge to the sweet fruits. The palate is medium-bodied and plump through the middle. Some sweet, soft tannins pull the fruit through and keep it all zipped up in a nice little package. This is nothing more then what it is supposed to be :delicious and ridiculous value. Is it going to change your life? Probably not. Are you gonna smash in about 5 mins with some pizza and a couple friends? Almost guaranteed. PWS

  4. Tournon Mathilda Rose 2018
    Tournon Mathilda Rose 2018
    M. Chapoutier Australia is the eponymous offshoot of the famous Rhone Valley producer. The business focuses on vineyards in the Pyrenees, Heathcote and Beechworth with collaboration from Ron Laughton of Jasper Hill and Rick Kinzbrunner of Giaconda. JAMES HALLIDAY

The whole Tournon range offers incredible value and quality which I guess that should be no surprise given it is headed up by the un-compromising Michel Chapoutier. They are wonderful expressions of Aussie fruit with a European sensibility.

The Tournon "Mathilda" Rose is so pretty and smells of rose petals and lively strawberry fruit. There is a hint of underlying grapefruit and that 'Provencal' peach. Its pristine and clean on the palate with pure red, spicy fruits that burst in your mouth. Super-refreshing! We couldn't believe the price when we tried this. PWS

  5. Domaine de Triennes Rose 2020 375ml
Domaine de Triennes Rose 2020 375ml
A winery with great pedigree, Triennes is a joint venture between Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac and Aubert de Villaine from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and is located in the Var, to the East of Aix en Provence.

Farmed organically since 2008, the aim of the estate is to produce wines that speak clearly of the bright sky and diverse terroirs of the region. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cinsault, Merlot, Grenache and Viognier provide the raw materials for their stunning range of wines from their pale, savoury rose through to the characterful rich reds for which Provence has become famous.

We've said it before but year after year this is always such a lovely bottling. Hints of wild strawberry, a touch of red currant and fresh cut peach all jostle in an airy and fragrant nose. Not too heavy, not too light it has lovely plush fruit under-pinned by gentle acidity. It would be a chameleon on the table pairing with so many foods. PWS

  6. Santa Ana Homage Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Santa Ana Homage Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Bodegas Santa Ana was founded in 1891 by Don Luis Tirasso, who was a pioneer in the viticulture development in Argentina. For over a century, Santa Ana winery has harmonized tradition and technology, which has resulted in Santa Ana wines being recognized for its quality at National and International levels.

Innovation is the key to Bodegas Santa Ana's success and their devotion to continually improving the quality of their wines.

This is classic cabernet territory here but in a focused and mid-weight style - think a combo between Margaret river and Yarra Valley. Black-currant and cocoa dusting on the nose with a touch of beautifully directed oak that just peaks in at the right time. Medium bodied all the way with perfectly sweet fruit buttressed by fine tannins and is finely poised. Spot on and so easy to enjoy.

  7. Finca Constanca Altozano Tempranillo 2019
    Finca Constanca Altozano Tempranillo 2019
Finca Constancia is located in the province of Toledo, in Castilla-La Mancha, about 100 km from Madrid.

Acquired by González Byass in 2001, it was chosen, after an exhaustive search, for its variety of different soil types and the continental climate and low rainfall during the ripening process, which in turn ensures healthy grapes. They practice precision viticulture throughout the vineyard to ensure they achieve the highest levels of quality.

Under the guidance of winemaker Beatriz Paniagua, as always, the selection process begins in the vineyard. Prior to alcoholic fermentation they are cold macerated, at 5oC, in contact with their skins so as to retain the fruit aromas and produce a bright, intense colour.

Explosion of aromas of ripe red fruits and hints of liquorice underpin the character and personality of this 100% Tempranillo. At the same time, notes of toffee and vanilla from ageing in barrel stand out. Soft and pleasant palate with exquisite well integrated tannins and a balance of preverves and ripe jammy fruits. How much? Wow!

  8. El Circo Tempranillo 2018
    El Circo Tempranillo 2018
This is a little beauty from Cariñena (not the grape) between Madrid and Barcelona. Its sourced from young vines of a single vineyard that sits about 450m above sea level helping to temper the warm summer sun. 100% Tempranillo it sees no new oak and is 100% organic fruit to boot!

This is good stuff for the money. A cocktail of sweet black, red and blueberry fruit leaps out of the glass followed by cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove spice. There is an earthy undertone that pulls all the fruit together nicely and its soft, supple tannins add a nice layer of complexity. This is nicely focused and drinks more seriously than a lot of other Spanish Tempranillo at this price point. PWS

  10. Chalk Hill Europa Shiraz 2020
    Chalk Hill Europa Shiraz 2020
Chalk Hill is a family owned wine company dedicated to making small batch, hand crafted wines of distinction. The Harvey family grape growing heritage goes back six generations in South Australia, and they now have six vineyards (two of which are Certified Organic and the rest sustainably managed) spread across the beautiful McLaren Vale wine region. The home vineyard was first planted in 1897 and these century old vines still bear fruit today. It is the family commitment to make wines that reveal the unique place that is McLaren Vale, and to showcase the efforts from the vineyard to the bottle.

Each of the seven parcels are treated separately and this sees a combo of steel tank and older oak so remains beautifully fresh, lifted and pure. A perfumed nose with red and dark berry fruits combining with milk chocolate, spice and roasted nuts. Medium to full bodied, this wine is beautifully balanced with layers of red and blue fruits up front. The finish is plush and slippery with beautiful fruit buttressed by fine tannins.

  11. Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2017 375ml
Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2017 375ml
Saturated ruby. Ripe black raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by suggestions of cracked pepper, allspice and pungent flowers. Supple, appealingly sweet red and blue fruit preserve flavors gain energy with air, and a bright mineral element adds back-end lift. Supple tannins add shape to a persistent, floral-accented finish, which leaves cherry and spice notes behind. JOSH RAYNOLDS

How Guigal year after year extracts such quality from such volume is astonishing. Famous for paying his growers well above market value for their grapes is probably the key. The fact that he treats this wine with every care and respect that her treats his upper eschelon wines is probably the other. Either way this is one of the most consistent wines to come out of France. PWS

  12. Jules Mediterranean Rose 2019
    Jules Mediterranean Rose 2019
Hugh and Jane Faulkner fell in love with a vineyard, situated on the foothills of the Masif des Maures, in the centre of the Var, and settled at the property in 1989. Their eldest son Julian would eventually take over the running of the vineyard in 2000. A shrewd wine businessman and talented vigneron, Julian established the Jules label with the mission to craft delicious, accessible, and great value wines with single estate personality.

Another killer Rose from Jules and one of those wines you ask yourself how they can do it for the money? Hints of citrus peel, fresh cut fennel and cranberry/red currant fruits on the nose follow into a juicy palate of crunchy, bright red fruit with a white pepper finish. Really juicy and bright but perfectly dry and eminently drinkable. Now under screwcap how can you go wrong? You would be crazy to not have a dozen of waiting in the wings for every time someone drops by for a drink on the patio or that last minute BBQ invite. PWS

  14. Campo Flores Tinto 2019
    Campo Flores Tinto 2019
The grapes sourced for the Campo Flores wines come from sun drenched, organically farmed vineyards in the centre of Spain. Each wine is handmade and reflects the personality of the land and terroir. Warning! This wine is immensely drinkable and we bet you will be hitting us up for more. It not the first time we have put it in a pack or floor stacked it in the store because it's just bloody delicious!

Supple ripe strawberry and blackcurrant fruit leaps out of the glass with swirl of earthy licorice that gently lurks. Spiced cola and black pepper poke their heads in and the little dash of syrah just adds another dimension to the wine. Some fine tannins run through the supple fruit and this is altogether more serious then either the label or the price point would allude too.

  15. Chateau Coupe Roses Fremillant Rose 2020
Chateau Coupe Roses Fremillant Rose 2020

Situated in La Caunette, a small and beautiful village in Minervois, just close to the Montagne Noire the family of Françoise Le Calvez, his parents, son and daughter have created something incredibly special from this little corner they have carved out in the Mediterranean hinterlands.

Today the vineyard holdings total 143 acres with an assortment of some 40 plots in total, mostly on the mountain plateau standing high above their village of La Caunette. At 750 – 1350 ft above sea level these are some of the highest sites in the AOC. The warm days and cool nights result in one the longest growing seasons in the region. Regardless the wine remain wonderfully fresh and vibrant.

A wonderful Provence style rose but with a little extra meat on it bones. The high mourvedre count gives this a beautiful earthy spice element that lingers gently over red and black currant fruit, orange peel and pithy citrus fruit. Still in the medium bodied category this has a little extra heft and comes of feeling firm and full as well as bright and fresh. Juicy fruits and a spicy finish bring it all together nicely.

  16. Monteguelfo Chianti DOCG 2020
    Monteguelfo Chianti DOCG 2020
Wow! This was such a wonderful surprise and terrific value Chianti from the estates of Andrea Cecchi. Made from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino, the wine does not see any oak and has a tradiotional leaning and plenty of character, particularly for a wine at this price. The Cecchi family has 125 years of winemaking history and have some excellent vineyards at their disposal.

It's a wonderfully vibrant & fresh expression of sangiovese that retains its fleshy and soft fruits throughout with a pillowy texture. Hints of black cherry and wild forest fruits with a touch of leather and some savoury dried herbs.

  17. Vina Ventisquero Pinot Noir 2019
    Vina Ventisquero Pinot Noir 2019
Vina Ventisquera, established in 1998, are now a large consolidated company making a swathe of wines off prime Chilean vineyards. While the operation is a bit of a behemoth, their focus on quality and access to excellent source material means they can output some really fantastic wine and extremely affordable prices.

The pinot opens up to an attractively fresh overlay of dried herbs and bright red berries with fine perfume. It takes a bit of swirling to open up but once it does it looks really pretty with nicely poised red fruits that run a sleek line down the middle of the wine. There is a nice focus and energy to the wines and does a great job. If you can decant this you will be rewarded handsomely with a perfect Autumn red. PWS

  18. Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2020
Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2020
Rive Droite Rive Gauche simply means right bank, left bank and the name derives from fruit for the wine being sourced from both sides of the river - the grenache coming mainly from the left (gauche) and the Syrah from the village of Daumazan (on the rive droite), near Tavel. It is also a French film starring the rotund wine-nut actor Gerard Depardieu - fun fact!

This is a lovely fresh and crunchy styled Rhone from our friends at Rive Droite. There is touch of thyme and bay over red spiced fruits, layered with a little bit of red liquorice. This is a medium bodied rendition with a pure core of raspberry, wild strawberry and splash of black berry fruit in the mix. Its lithe with a lovely fresh cut to the sweet fruits that makes this look wonderfully elegant and damn easy to like.

The Fontarèche property, at the heart of Corbiere, has a long, illustrious and noble history dating back to 1201. Current proprietor, Jacques de Lamy took over from his father, Count Edouard de Lamy in 1957 where the de Lamy family has been in charge of the property since 1682.

Fontarèche work with 17 grape varieties of which their Carignan is held the highest regards. The vines are planted to the semi-desert Mediterranean climate trapped between the Atlantic and Mediterranean, the Atlantic breezes funnel through the mountain ranges that form the backdrop of the region and help to temper the summer heat in the vineyards retaining freshness and vibrancy in the wines.

Wonderfully lifted violets, mulberry and blue fruits all underlined by gentle smoke and graphite. The palate is brimming with a core of dark fruits, sweet and savoury notes with a really nice focus and buzzy energy. Really is surprising the level of subtle complexity at this price point that remains so easy to drink at the same time. Fast becoming a staff favourite! MYLES, PWS

An attractively fresh array of mulberry and red-plum aromas with a rose-like floral edge, too. The palate has a very supple, succulent core of fleshy, sleek tannins that carry bright raspberry and mulberry flavors fresh and long. Great balance and vibrancy here. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec and petit verdot. Drink now. Screw cap. NICK STOCK, JamesSuckling.com

(Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec, petit verdot) Deep, youthfully bright purple/red colour, with a lovely cassis, mulberry and blueberry aroma, the palate rich, essency and fruit-sweet, with stacks of glorious berry cabernet flavour. The tannins are soft and fine-grained, mild-mannered and the wine is already drinking superbly. Blueberry and violet overtones. Fruit drives the wine. HUON HOOKE, The Real Review

We are always a little shocked when we see the price for the Amy's vineyard's bottling. It represents such terrific value from one of Australia's great wine estates.
