  1. Chateau Coupe Roses Fremillant Rose 2020
Chateau Coupe Roses Fremillant Rose 2020

Situated in La Caunette, a small and beautiful village in Minervois, just close to the Montagne Noire the family of Françoise Le Calvez, his parents, son and daughter have created something incredibly special from this little corner they have carved out in the Mediterranean hinterlands.

Today the vineyard holdings total 143 acres with an assortment of some 40 plots in total, mostly on the mountain plateau standing high above their village of La Caunette. At 750 – 1350 ft above sea level these are some of the highest sites in the AOC. The warm days and cool nights result in one the longest growing seasons in the region. Regardless the wine remain wonderfully fresh and vibrant.

A wonderful Provence style rose but with a little extra meat on it bones. The high mourvedre count gives this a beautiful earthy spice element that lingers gently over red and black currant fruit, orange peel and pithy citrus fruit. Still in the medium bodied category this has a little extra heft and comes of feeling firm and full as well as bright and fresh. Juicy fruits and a spicy finish bring it all together nicely.

Limpid peach skin. Nectarine, strawberry and a hint of honeydew melon on the highly perfumed nose. Juicy and seamless in texture, offering juicy red berry and pit fruit flavors that take on a suave floral accent as the wine opens up. Blends weight and finesse with a steady hand and finishes long and energetic, with repeating florality and lingering peachiness. This wine could pull double duty, paired with a wide range of foods or just for drinking by itself. JOSH RAYNOLDS

Glistening orange-pink. Vibrant, mineral-accented cherry, peach, and honeydew scents, along with orange pith and floral nuances. Stains the palate with juicy red berry, citrus fruit and lavender flavors that show very good depth as well as liveliness. Shows firm tension and dusty mineral character on the long, penetrating finish, which leaves melon and blood orange notes behind. JOSH RAYNOLDS

  5. Domaine Ott Chateau Romassan 2019
    Domaine Ott Chateau Romassan 2019
Pale, bright-hued orange. Displays an impressive array of citrus and pit fruit, red berry, floral and succulent herb qualities on the mineral-driven nose. Offers palate-staining strawberry, pomegranate, blood orange, white peach and honeysuckle flavors that are at once concentrated and lively. Deftly plays richness off of elegance and pick up a spicy nuance as it opens up. Hangs on with remarkable tenacity, echoing the floral and pit fruit notes. I wish that people, many of whom I suspect have never even tried them, could look past the fact that while the wines made by this impeccably run, no-expense-spared domaine have a reputation for being the rosés of choice in swanky summer locales, they're the real deal. That's not just in the pink wine category. Even if this one is relatively expensive for the Bandol category it's actually a compelling value as world-class wines go. JOSH RAYNOLDS
