  1. 2A Pinot Noir 2019
    2A Pinot Noir 2019

Made by an icon within the Australian wine industry Matt Harrop. Matt had stints at Grosset and Brokenwood before creating Shadowfax in 1999. Now making wine at Curly Flat and Silent Way, Matt has gained a reputation for making stunning cool climate wines with structure, concentration and complexity.
This Pinot Noir was made exclusively for the Prince Wine Store with fruit sourced from the Macedon Ranges. The youthful wine presents a vibrant nose of fresh cut strawberries with a herbaceous edge. Bright red fruit follows on the palate, with fresh crunchy acidity and subtle spiced characteristic. Beautifully accompanied with roast rabbit or enjoyed on its own. PWS

  2. Silent Way Pinot Noir 2018
    Silent Way Pinot Noir 2018
The Silent Way Pinot Noir is grown at Kilmore all sourced from the Quarry Ridge Vineyard. Planted from the mid 1980s, it's a very cold site, D5V12 and MV6. Lots of rock here- the western boundary was mined for bluestone many years back. Not officially macedon Ranges- about 1 km west of the Macedon GI boundary. A super cool sight so warmer vintage like 2018 suit it well.

Hand harvested fruit was fermented naturally with 10% whole bunches, pumped over daily.20 days on skins, pressed then settled for 5 days then racked to oak for a natural MLF. Only 5% new wood.
Campari notes, black fruits, some cocoa dust and sweet red cherries. Palate is sweet fruited, evenly ripened and shows good powerful flavours- black cherry, some earthy notes and ripe positively structured tannin. This is a firmly structured, sweetly fruited Pinot- showing the positive effects of a cool site in a warm season.

And don't forget this is named after one of the game-changing jazz tracks by Miles Davis. PWS

  3. Knight's Granite Hills 1971 Block Riesling 2018
    Knight's Granite Hills 1971 Block Riesling 2018

Granite Hills is one of the enduring classics, having pioneered the successful growing of riesling and shiraz in an uncompromisingly cool climate. The vineyard includes riesling, chardonnay, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and pinot noir (the last also used in its sparkling wine). The Rieslings age superbly, and the Shiraz was the forerunner of the cool-climate school in Australia. JAMES HALLIDAY

From the original riesling vines planted in '71. Delicate lemony scents lead to a textural, well weighted riesling with an above-average sense of presence. Its quality is built on mouthfeel, weight of fruit and flow. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, James Halliday

  4. Mount Monument Pinot Noir 2018
    Mount Monument Pinot Noir 2018

30% whole bunches. 275 dozen. New label (not the one shown here).

Beautiful complexity here. It’s just one of those undergrowthy, couldn’t-be-anything-but-pinot wines. Fresh cherries, ripe but not too sweet, with musk and violet notes on top. Twig notes right on the finish. It’s a fresh, juicy, floral style with lots going on. It’s also satiny. In short, there’s a lot to like here. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, The Wine Front

  5. Curly Flat Pinot Noir 2018
    Curly Flat Pinot Noir 2018

I believe this is the first vintage with Matt Harrop at the controls. I'm likely not recognized as the authority on Pinot Noir at The Wine Front, but I'll do my best for you.
Dried rose perfume in with some fresh mint, deep raspberry flavour, a little almond and vanilla, plus some spice. It's ripe, but not overly so, with cool acidity, a dusting of graphite tannin, and a long biscuity finish. It's generous in style, but keeps itself trim. I'm particularly tickled by the quality of tannin here. Excellent. GARY WALSH, The Wine Front
