  1. Markus Molitor Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett Feinherb 2019
Markus Molitor Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett Feinherb 2019
Molitor's 2019 Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett (Green Capsule) opens pure and flinty on the deep and complex, very intense yet bright and fascinating, seductive and terroir-driven nose. Lush and round on the palate yet with salty-piquant and vibrantly fresh acidity, this is a structured, even somewhat tannic Kabinett to cellar for at least 2-3 more years. 2. Ansgar Clusserath Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Spatlese 2019
Ansgar Clusserath Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Spatlese 2019

Wonderful peach and lemon character. Succulent and vibrant with quite a discreet touch of natural grape sweetness, then a very crisp finish. Excellent depth at the finish. Drink or hold. STUART PIGGOT, www.jamessuckling.com

The 2019 Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Spätlese is on GG level but in a sweet style. It is ripe but precise and flinty on the elegant, slate-driven nose, with bright fruit aromas and the purity of broken sate and herbs. On the palate, this is a racy-piquant, juicy and quite sweet Spätlese with a fine mineral grip and tension on the finish. It is very piquant and surely far too young to be served this year. Tasted in May 2020 as a cask sample ready to be bottled, this Spätlese should be kept for at least 5-6 years. The aging capacity, however, is much longer. STEPHEN RHEINHARDT, www.robertparker.com

  3. Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett 2020
Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett 2020

Did somebody say aperitif? Effusive white-peach, honeysuckle and vanilla-bean aromas pour from the glass of this Kabinett. A very juicy wine with wonderful lightness and mineral freshness. An ideal partner for conversation. Drink or hold. Screw cap. JAMES SUCKLING, jamessuckling.com

It offers a beautifully aromatic and ripe yet elegant nose of yellow peach, pear, orange blossom, apricot flower, grapefruit, cardamom, and bergamot. The wine coats the palate with ample juicy and ripe yet fresh yellow fruits and leaves a fresh and nicely zesty feel in the fruity-styled and comparatively light and truly Kabinett-styled finish. This Kabinett proves superbly fruity and, at the same time, beautifully structured. THE MOSEL REPORT

  4. Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese Dry 2019
Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese Dry 2019
The green-yellow colored 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese (White Capsule) is a beauty! Highly refined flint stone and crunchy slate notes highlight the perfectly ripe yet delicate and fresh Riesling aromas. Full-bodied, intense and racy-piquant on the palate, with the vibrant freshness of natural CO2 and the deep roots of old vines, this is an elegant, dense and dramatically tight yet mouth-filling and perfectly balanced Sonnenuhr with lingering salinity and slatey grip. A fabulous wine… STEPHAN REINHARDT

  5. Dr Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2016 375mL
Dr Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2016 375mL
Still very youthful and unready, but packed with flavour. Beautiful fruit and silky acidity. This is a raw diamond. Drink from 2018 to 2050. (95) STUART PIGOTT, jamessuckling.com

Fresh apple, quince preserves and vanilla cream mingle on the nose and the creamy, buoyant palate. Honeysuckle and heliotrope lend seductive inner-mouth perfume. This finishes with a lovely sense of lift and with just enough primary juiciness to remain animating. DAVID SCHILDKNECHT, Vinous Media

  6. Richter Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese 2018
Richter Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese 2018
Stunning purity of fruit here, ranging from fresh lemons to yuzu to limes and then loads of iron filings and gun flint. The medium sweetness, interlocked with taut citrus and stone fruit, gives an impression of an embellished, intricately woven texture, and there’s loads of density and energy. Very detailed and sleek on the finish. STUART PIGOTT

From 30- to 40-year-old vines, the 2018 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese is flinty, precise and reductive on the coolish nose, with discreet and fine (but lush!) pineapple aromas and very fine notes of crushed, smooth slate. On the palate, this is a clear, fresh, lush, highly finessed, piquant and salty Riesling with very tannins and lingering salinity and piquancy. This is a fabulous Spätlese with piquant finesse and mineral tension that seems to be familiar with that of the Scharzhofberger and the Euchariusberg. I can hardly imagine any better Spätlese from 2018. (96) DAVID SCHILDKNECHT, Wine Advocate

Selbach Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese* 2016

The 2016 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese * offers an incredible, gorgeously fine bouquet of weathered slate and perfectly ripe, healthy Riesling berries with just a touch of honey. On the palate, this is a highly finessed and piquant Riesling with great elegance and exotic fruit aromas. The finish is long, piquant and precise, well-structured and firm, but at the same time, it tickles the palate like wine from no other vineyard can do. What an impressive wine! 8. Richter Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese 2017
Richter Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese 2017
From the very old part of the vineyard that was planted in 1890 and picked with 15% to 20% clean botrytis, the 2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese offers a deep, intense and concentrated yet very clear and elegant bouquet of apricot and mirabelle confiture, orange tea and crushed slate. Round, perfectly balanced and elegant on the palate, this is a very complex, long and mature Wehlener Sonnenuhr with a silky-crystalline texture and a seductive, mouth-filling and persistently salty finish. The botrytis gives texture, concentration and expression as well as a good portion of sensuality. This is where Alsace kisses the Mosel. A gorgeous wine. (95+) STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate

  9. Ansgar Clusserath Trittenheimer Apotheke Trocken 2019
Ansgar Clusserath Trittenheimer Apotheke Trocken 2019

Stunning dry Mosel! Great citrusy freshness, but also ripe mini banana and grapefruit, then a lot of mineral power at the wonderfully uplifting finish. Drink or hold. STUART PIGGOT, www.jamessuckling.com

The 2019 Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Trocken is clearly on GG level this year. The wine opens with an intense, pure and flinty bouquet of ripe and juicy lemons, lemon zests and crushed slate. Juicy, piquant and stimulating on the palate, this is an intense and powerful, rich and textured, very attractive dry Riesling from a roughly 100-year-old plot in the center of the cru. It is stimulatingly salty on the grippy finish but always lush and sexy. STEPHEN RHEINHARDT, www.robertparker.com

  10. Markus Molitor Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Auslese ** Dry 2019
Markus Molitor Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Auslese ** Dry 2019
The lime-green-golden 2019 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese ** (White Capsule) is deep, intense and concentrated yet elegant and still precise and flinty on the nose. The attack on the palate is stunningly young and vital before the elegant and crystalline wine reveals its complexity and inner power. This is a tightly structured, very digestible and still edgy Auslese that needs another 5-6 years or so to settle and shine. This 2019 is enormously salty on the finish and highly promising STEPHAN REINHARDT

  11. Markus Molitor Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese ** 2019
Markus Molitor Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese ** 2019
The yellow-golden 2019 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese ** (Golden Capsule) is brilliantly clear yet also intense and concentrated on the pure, fresh, finely raisined and herbal (rosemary), slightly honeyed nose that is complex and ambitious. Dense and juicy, with a vivacious purity and great finesse, this is a concentrated, vibrantly fresh and tightly structured Auslese with a remarkably digestible finish. There might be some percentage of botrytis that gives this Auslese a lush texture that is otherwise terribly clear and vital. I'd keep it for at least 7 years and up to 40, if only I could. Attention, though, the wine has serious acidity. STEPHAN REINHARDT

  12. Egon Muller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett 2018
Egon Muller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett 2018
Purple plum is laced with mint on the nose, and those two elements serve for a succulent and subtly cooling effect on the glossy, polished palate. Tangy plum skin, piquant plum pit and a hint of seedy red raspberry serve for invigoration critical to pushing back against unusually high residual sugar, but without diminishing the sense of richness that is engendered on first sip. “I believe some casks would have benefited from fermenting a bit further,” noted Müller, but the fermentations simply petered out. As a result – though, naturally, must weights in the low 90s are also contributory – nearly 60 grams of residual sugar remain in the finished wine. The impressively sustained finish is amply refreshing as well as transparent to smoky and stony nuances. DAVID SCHILDKNECHT, Vinous

Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2017 (Golden Capsule)
The 2017 Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese ** (Golden Capsule) displays a concentrated yet highly refined bouquet of orange, lemon and grapefruit aromas intermixed with delicate and refreshing slate notes. Lush, piquant and salty on the elegant, pure, even weightless palate, this is a crystalline Auslese with great finesse, grip, tension and highly stimulating salinity. This is a finessed, gorgeous beauty, and it almost makes me fear the other Auslesen listed here. 7.5% alcohol. STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate

  14. Richter Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Cask 42 2019 375mL
Richter Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Cask 42 2019 375mL
From a very young and very old part of the cru, the 2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese *** -42- is the pre-selection of the TBA, and the grapes weighed in at 145° Oechsle. The lime- and lemon-tinged, very intense and aromatic bouquet is amazingly fine, fresh and pure on the nose, displaying ripe stone fruit and pineapple aromas intermixed with the flinty and spicy notes of the specific slate soils in the WSU. Based on 70% to 80% botrytis grapes, this is a sweet yet highly refined and piquant Beerenauslese sold as a three-starred or "highly finessed" Auslese. This is a really delicate and promising Sonnenuhr of great class and style, with lingering and stimulating finesse and salinity. Fabulous. (98) STEPHAN REINHARDT

  15. Egon Muller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett 2019
Egon Muller Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett 2019
Müller's 2019 Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett opens with a bright, ripe and finely slatey bouquet. Round and lush on the palate, this is a medium-bodied, mouth-filling, charming and  balanced Kupp Kabinett with ripe, elegant, crystalline and salty acidity and fine grip on the aromatic, well-structured finish. The 2019 already drinks dangerously well as an aperitif, but it is made to be cellared and then served with food in about 15-20 years. STEPHEN RHEINHARDT, The Wine Advocate

Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Auslese 2015
It's hard to single out individual aromas from this complex fragrance. The nose invites to explore the many facets of fine fresh fruit, subtle nuances of spice and minerality and a gentle floral notion which all add to an extraordinary sensory experience. On the palate the Braune Kupp excels with a delightful interaction of vibrant acidity and delicious residual sweetness, putting grace and finesse above overwhelming opulence. 17. Richter Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr TBA 2005 375mL
Richter Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr TBA 2005 375mL
The 2005 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese offers dusty, smoky notes of advanced botrytis on the nose, along with grilled pineapple, apricot preserves, lemon, and honey, all four of which elements vie for attention on the palate. Pure, refined and with rapier-sharp length, this nevertheless is not yet by any means organized or clear enough to permit a good view of what sort of personality lies in the future. For now one can only say that it may take many years for the personality of this wine to be clearly visible, but it is virtually certain that this will be a 50-year wine. Along with the sheer density of Richter’s 2005 vintage Trockenbeerenauslesen goes, in each instance, a concentration of acidity to over twelve grams DAVID SCHILDKNECHT, Wine Advocate
