  1. Rieslingfreak No. 3 Clare Dry Riesling 2021
Rieslingfreak No. 3 Clare Dry Riesling 2021

Fruit from the family vineyard in White Hutt, Clare Valley. The vines are planted into heavy red clay soils. Saffron and turmeric lace the aromatics, straying into the pink peppercorn and aniseed space. On the palate the wine is rich and intense, a very different shape to its peers, and all the better for it – its identity is clear and pronounced. Salted lemon, lime, crunchy green apple and white peach, too. Super-pleasurable and multi-dimensional. Astounding price. ERIN LARKIN, James Halliday

  2. Unico Zelo Jade & Jasper Fiano 2021
Unico Zelo Jade & Jasper Fiano 2021
Brendan and Laura are both winemakers and their Unico Zelo label is a stalwart in the stores here. With a particular focus on Italian varietals they have been showcasing what a little care, alot of love and a good dash of fun can do with wines from the Riverland region. Great labels, cracking wines and good people. How can you can go wrong!?

Elegant whiffs of jasmine and white peach blossoms, racy and crackling acidity with distinct Fiano texture. This has plenty of pithy zip and a little grip on the palate along with a lovely fresh snap that is often missing from fiano. Nice, crunchy fruits drive through the mouth to a bursting finish that leaves you wanting more. Delicious stuff!

  3. Bloody Hill Villages Pinot Noir Healesville 2021
Bloody Hill Villages Pinot Noir Healesville 2021
The first pinot to be made from vines Rivar planted three years ago at their home property in Healesville, Bloody Hill. Rivar was given a patch of great dirt and free reign and should be proud of this first run. All the fruit is destemmed so the focus is on a core of red cherries, rosehip and a subtle meaty edge.  This is fluid and flowing on the palate and is a lovely glass of Yarra Valley pinot. 4. Swinney Riesling 2021
    Swinney Riesling 2021

A whole bunch pressed riesling with time on lees. It’s from the excellent Powderbark vineyard of Swinney. When I see the name Swinney a Victorian era detective comes to mind.

Pretty perfume of jasmine, lemon-lime Splice ice blocks, lemon sorbet, almond, fresh milk, struck flint. Lovely start. Soft in the palate but with a very, very racy core of limey, zesty acidity, so very refreshing in feel with tension and precision on hand. It belts through the palate, a whip crack of zingy tang and sorbet-like mouth-watering pucker. Great regional character, good detail, bright and oh so vibrant. Acid hounds line up! 5. Mulline Nouveau 2021
    Mulline Nouveau 2021

80% whole bunch. Old oak for four months.

Well, this is very nice. Light and fresh, strawberries and plenty of spice, crisp and cool, a cranberry and watermelon crunch to it, fine emery tannin, not sweet, yet still bright and fruity, kind of playful, but a little bit serious too. Good length. Super level of drinking appeal. So nicely done. GARY WALSH, The Wiue Front

Ben Mulline and his partner Ben Mullen are making a splash in Geelong with there new label. Mullen has worked at some of the finest addresses around the world, such as Leeuwin Estate, Torbreck, Yarra Yering and Oakridge as well as Domaine Dujac in Burgundy, and Craggy Range, New Zealand.. Prior to launching their label, he was the chief winemaker at Clyde Park. An impressive resume by anyone's standards.

These are wines that express a number of Geelong's single sites which Ben has an intimate knowledge of. This has also allowed him to gain access to some of the regions best fruit for his Nouveau, a blend of multiple sites made in an up-front, juicy style that is difficult not to love.
