  1. Domaine de Triennes Rose 2020 375ml
Domaine de Triennes Rose 2020 375ml
A winery with great pedigree, Triennes is a joint venture between Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac and Aubert de Villaine from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and is located in the Var, to the East of Aix en Provence.

Farmed organically since 2008, the aim of the estate is to produce wines that speak clearly of the bright sky and diverse terroirs of the region. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cinsault, Merlot, Grenache and Viognier provide the raw materials for their stunning range of wines from their pale, savoury rose through to the characterful rich reds for which Provence has become famous.

We've said it before but year after year this is always such a lovely bottling. Hints of wild strawberry, a touch of red currant and fresh cut peach all jostle in an airy and fragrant nose. Not too heavy, not too light it has lovely plush fruit under-pinned by gentle acidity. It would be a chameleon on the table pairing with so many foods. PWS

  2. Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2017 375ml
Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2017 375ml
Saturated ruby. Ripe black raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by suggestions of cracked pepper, allspice and pungent flowers. Supple, appealingly sweet red and blue fruit preserve flavors gain energy with air, and a bright mineral element adds back-end lift. Supple tannins add shape to a persistent, floral-accented finish, which leaves cherry and spice notes behind. JOSH RAYNOLDS

How Guigal year after year extracts such quality from such volume is astonishing. Famous for paying his growers well above market value for their grapes is probably the key. The fact that he treats this wine with every care and respect that her treats his upper eschelon wines is probably the other. Either way this is one of the most consistent wines to come out of France. PWS

  3. Jules Mediterranean Rose 2019
    Jules Mediterranean Rose 2019
Hugh and Jane Faulkner fell in love with a vineyard, situated on the foothills of the Masif des Maures, in the centre of the Var, and settled at the property in 1989. Their eldest son Julian would eventually take over the running of the vineyard in 2000. A shrewd wine businessman and talented vigneron, Julian established the Jules label with the mission to craft delicious, accessible, and great value wines with single estate personality.

Another killer Rose from Jules and one of those wines you ask yourself how they can do it for the money? Hints of citrus peel, fresh cut fennel and cranberry/red currant fruits on the nose follow into a juicy palate of crunchy, bright red fruit with a white pepper finish. Really juicy and bright but perfectly dry and eminently drinkable. Now under screwcap how can you go wrong? You would be crazy to not have a dozen of waiting in the wings for every time someone drops by for a drink on the patio or that last minute BBQ invite. PWS

  4. Chateau Fontareche Corbieres Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2019
Chateau Fontareche Corbieres Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2019
The Fontarèche property, at the heart of Corbiere, has a long, illustrious and noble history dating back to 1201. Current proprietor, Jacques de Lamy took over from his father, Count Edouard de Lamy in 1957 where the de Lamy family has been in charge of the property since 1682.

Fontarèche work with 17 grape varieties of which their Carignan is held the highest regards. The vines are planted to the semi-desert Mediterranean climate trapped between the Atlantic and Mediterranean, the Atlantic breezes funnel through the mountain ranges that form the backdrop of the region and help to temper the summer heat in the vineyards retaining freshness and vibrancy in the wines.

Wonderfully lifted violets, mulberry and blue fruits all underlined by gentle smoke and graphite. The palate is brimming with a core of dark fruits, sweet and savoury notes with a really nice focus and buzzy energy. Really is surprising the level of subtle complexity at this price point that remains so easy to drink at the same time. Fast becoming a staff favourite! MYLES, PWS

  5. Le Petit Gascoun Rose 2019
    Le Petit Gascoun Rose 2019
The Cotes du Gascogne region sits between Bordeaux and the border to Spain and puts out some absolute belters when it comes to great value and a high gluggability factor. The Petit Gascogn range is no exception with a red, white and of course rose in the range that punch well above their weight.

No, these aren't going to change your life but if you can have just one glass in a sitting we would be very surprised. This cracking little rose opens with a lovely peppery spice hit and summer red fruits with a touch of orange peel that lingers in the background. It's on the lighter side of middle-weight but delivers in spades. So easy and absolutely enjoyable. PWS

Its certified organic and has eighty acres of vines that grow on the gentle hills of sand and fine silt soils. All harvests are done by hand and the domaine does not use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. This is a dry and textural blend of Colombard, Ugni-Blanc, Sauvignon, and Gros-Manseng.

They have done it again! This is my go to white for summer with a lovely lemony, floral lilt and powdery, perfumed nose. Gentle and bright with clean and crisp flavours of orchard fruits and white nectarine. Its uncomplicated and delicious with clean, crunchy fruits and a zippy, minerally finish. 7. Felicette Grenache Rouge 2020
    Felicette Grenache Rouge 2020

The Félicette wines originate from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the south of France, along its southern-most coastline of the Mediterranean. Coming from vineyards between Narbonne and Béziers, the grapes are de-stemmed, undergo cold maceration and gentle ferments. The Félicette Blanc is mostly Grenache Blanc, with a little Viogner. The Rouge is almost all Grenache, with a splash of Syrah. Both wines are exceptionally elegant, drinkable and fresh, balanced and refined.

Yes! They have done it again. These are so easy to love with their bright and juicy fruit. A bouquet of pretty, small red fruits and a touch of wild herb. Soft and plush in a mid-weight style that is absolutely smashable. Packed with red pastille fruits and soft spice. It won't changae your life but you will be better for enjoying it.

  8. Marcel Malbec 2018
    Marcel Malbec 2018
Château du Cèdre is widely regarded as the leading estate in Cahors. Brothers Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe, both qualified oenologists, can trace its history back to their grandfather Léon who left his native Flanders to settle in south-west France in the early 1900s. In due course Léon’s son Charles and his wife Marie-Thérèse started a mixed farm in 1958 and began planting one hectare of vines in three different plots every year.

This is made from fruit that doesn't make the estate range and also bought fruit from the greater southwest area. Sees no oak.

This is the soft and juicy side of Malbec with mulberry and damson fruit flecked with violet and sweet spice. The usual Cahor tannins are melted away into the pluch fruit and this is made to drink young and in fron of a fire. Great examlpe of what the southwest can do at this level when given a little care and attention. PWS

100% Malbec from purchased fruit grown on the 1st and 2nd terraces close to the river. The fruit is 100% de-stemmed and crushed, then the juice given a 3-4 day cold soak, to extract colour and a little tannin, before being pressed and cool-fermented in stainless steel. Matured in concrete tanks for 6-8 months. 'This shows the soft, juicy side of Malbec. No serious tannins here, just red berry fruit and fine acidity. That means it's ready to drink this winter.' Raised in tank and aged on fine lees, an abundance of savoury, grassy grapefruit, tangy and beautifully balanced.Lifted tropical fruit, lime and green apple with subtle herbaceous grassy end notes. 10. Laffitte Petit Gascoun Rose 2020
    Laffitte Petit Gascoun Rose 2020

Christophe and Sébastien are two true Gascoun brothers who can trace their ancestry in their village of Ayzieu back to the 15th century. The name 'La Fitte' originates from the word 'stone' in the ancient Gascoun language. They used to concentrate on Cognac production but decided to diversify into wine and we are glad they did. All of their wines are playful, delicious and easy-drinking.

Incredibly they take a detailed approach to winemaking with each varietal is vilified separately, destemmed and directly pressed. Peppery, sweet raspberry greets with a little sherberty-spice, apple and peach. This is a lighter style rose with vibrant and pristine.

  11. Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2020
Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2020
Rive Droite Rive Gauche simply means right bank, left bank and the name derives from fruit for the wine being sourced from both sides of the river - the grenache coming mainly from the left (gauche) and the Syrah from the village of Daumazan (on the rive droite), near Tavel. It is also a French film starring the rotund wine-nut actor Gerard Depardieu - fun fact!

This is a lovely fresh and crunchy styled Rhone from our friends at Rive Droite. There is touch of thyme and bay over red spiced fruits, layered with a little bit of red liquorice. This is a medium bodied rendition with a pure core of raspberry, wild strawberry and splash of black berry fruit in the mix. Its lithe with a lovely fresh cut to the sweet fruits that makes this look wonderfully elegant and damn easy to like.

Chateau Coupe Roses Fremillant Rose 2020

Situated in La Caunette, a small and beautiful village in Minervois, just close to the Montagne Noire the family of Françoise Le Calvez, his parents, son and daughter have created something incredibly special from this little corner they have carved out in the Mediterranean hinterlands.

Today the vineyard holdings total 143 acres with an assortment of some 40 plots in total, mostly on the mountain plateau standing high above their village of La Caunette. At 750 – 1350 ft above sea level these are some of the highest sites in the AOC. The warm days and cool nights result in one the longest growing seasons in the region. Regardless the wine remain wonderfully fresh and vibrant.

A wonderful Provence style rose but with a little extra meat on it bones. The high mourvedre count gives this a beautiful earthy spice element that lingers gently over red and black currant fruit, orange peel and pithy citrus fruit. Still in the medium bodied category this has a little extra heft and comes of feeling firm and full as well as bright and fresh. Juicy fruits and a spicy finish bring it all together nicely.

This is a cracking Blend of gamay 60% malbec 20% and cabernet Franc 20% made by the team at Domaines de Grande Esperances. They are geared towards quality production and organic farming base in the Loire Valley and working with about 24 hectares of land and 8 varietals. These are fun and delicious wines that don't take themselves to seriously but still over-deliver in spades.

A lifted fruit punch of red fruits - think strawberry, raspberry, sour cherry and red currant that leap out of the glass. A wild spicy note carries the bold fruit turning round into lovely savoury peppery sprinkles. There is a light lick of tannin that keeps this all-in check. Yum!

  17. Racine Picpoul de Pinet 2019
    Racine Picpoul de Pinet 2019
Picpoul from the coastal reaches of the Mediterranean has become in recent years the 'go to wine' in France for Oysters, shell fish and indeed all fish and with good reason as besides having that dry bite and the acidity that goes with it, it also has good body and underlying fruit flavours. I love it - and particularly as it is made by my good fried Francois Chamboissier who is both a talented winemaker and a great gourmet living in a stunning small village in southern France. What a life! The wine is a treat. Racy freshness, ripe citrus fruit, and seafood-friendly purity. The palate has a lovely texture, with many layers of flavour and a notable length to the finish.

"The 2019 Racine Picpoul de Pinet is spot on. Crisp, clean and lively, it makes the perfect springtime aperitif and, blessed with a screwcap, can be opened in a trice whenever thirst strikes. JONATHAN RAY, The Spectator Magazine

Guillaume and his sister Marion inherited the estate from his parents in 1985, and they are now joined by his son in working the land. Together they are the 6th and 7th generations of Allies making wine at Reine Juliette.

Harvested early (August) to keep some freshness and also because the summer was very dry and warm. 15 days cold maceration, malolactic fermentation, aged 6 months in concrete tanks. Very drinkable Carignan. The dark fruit character shows very well with silky tannins, touch of chopped herbs and pepperiness."

Jaboulet Parallele 45 Cotes du Rhone Blanc 2019

Since taking over Jaboulet in 2003 the Frey family have been moving towards organics and biodynamic viticulture - not always that easy in the temperate climes of the Northern Rhone, especially at volume - yet in 2017 they achieved their goal.

To get there they have dramatically reduced yields - up to 60% less fruit per hectare now than when they took over.

The wines across the board have improved dramatically in quality and their entry level Cotes du Rhone both red and white are no exception. These are amazing quality for the amount of wine made and the price. For $20 a bottle (in dozen) you will struggle to find wines as well put together and expressive of the Rhone.

Pierre Marie Chermette Beaujolais Les Griottes Beaujolais 2019 375ml

crewcap. This Beaujolais cherrybomb is drawn from 20- to 40-year-old vines grown on dark, granite soils around the Chermette homestead in Saint-Vérand (southern Beaujolais). The winemaking here has remained unchanged for decades, with traditional whole-bunch, semi-carbonic ferment in concrete tanks and then maturation in tank and ancient oak casks still the order of the day.

As opposed to his age-worthy Crus from Moulin-a-Vent, Fleurie, et al, Chermette's aim here is to produce something light-bodied and cherry-fruited with reach-for-another-glass charm--something the juicy-crunchy 2019 nails with ease. From one of the region's great addresses, this is a punchy and buoyant red that goes down dangerously easily. PWS

Pale peach skin color. Fresh citrus fruits, red berries and a hint of nectarine on the incisive, mineral-accented nose. Silky and focused on the palate, offering light-bodied strawberry, tangerine and succulent herb flavors. Finishes smooth and subtly sweet, with a repeating red berry note and good tenacity. The Bellenos range sit under the newly created Coteaux Bougignons (Hillside Burgundy) appellation. This new appellation was created was created in 2011 to allow producers in the region more freedom to blend wines, among varieties and throughout a larger designated area. It is designed to promote Burgundy that is of real quality but perhaps fits outside the traditional constraints of AOC regulations. It extends from Cote d’or in the north to Beaujolais in the south.

The blanc is a blend of mainly chardonnay sourced from a cluster of southern Burgundy and northern Beaujolais sites. A touch of aligoté is also blended in to provide a little extra zip and vigour to the wine. Such a friendly and convivial blended dry white, this has so much upfront, floral appeal (orange blossom and roses), juicy fruit, generous body and just enough acidity to keep it bright at the finish. Drink now. JAMES SUCKLING

Drink now!? You don't have to tell us twice James! This is always such a delicious wine and if there was wine that represented what Hugel do and how well they do it, the Gentil would do it with aplomb.

Situated in Riquewihr the estate has over the years built an enviable reputation for the consistency and quality of its wines.
