  1. PWS Thank Your Port 500ml
    PWS Thank Your Port 500ml
For those of you who may remember we used to have 3 big barrels of fortified wines out the back of the store where you could re-fill your own bottles, or buy from us, a selection of Stanton & Kileen Muscat, Topaque and Ruby Fortified. After many years these bottlings fell out of favour and with room growing to a premium at the store we got rid of them.

But what to do with all that wonderful sticky goodness? The juice was too good to just pour away and we really had a bit of a soft-spot in our heart for these wines. In jumps  crew at Stanton & Kileen help us out with our little conundrum. They expertly blended the 3 fortifieds together with a little fresh stock from their own holdings and worked a little magic at the same time. The result is the PWS Thank You Fortified.

This is such a magical combo or red fruits blended with spicy muscat florals and a hint of earl grey tea. It's beautifully luscious and sweet like a muscat but a dollop of strawberry and raspberry fruit elevate the nose with a little twist on the traditional fortified. Delicious!

  2. Yalumba Antique Tawny 375ml
    Yalumba Antique Tawny 375ml
Yalumaba is a force to be reckoned with and a recent chat with the team there left us pretty excited about what is going on. This was one of the highlights of that tasting, and we were throuroughly impressed. The base wine is over 40 years old, the finished wine has an average age of 15 years. Deep sienna brown colour, with distinct green olive edges, showing its great age. Made from shiraz, grenache and other Portuguese varietals.

The medium amber-hued non-vintage Museum Reserve Antique Tawny, which has had more than 15 years of oak aging, is a sensational fortified that could easily be confused with a high quality, 20- to 25-year-old Tawny Port. Delicious notes of prunes, sweet raisins, over-ripe strawberries, and caramel soar from the glass of this incredibly intense wine. 96 Points, ROBERT PARKER, The Wine Advocate

  3. Valdespino PX Yellow 750ml
    Valdespino PX Yellow 750ml
With six centuries of sherry production under their belts, Valdespino lay claim to being one of the oldest sherry bodegas in the region. The heart of Valdespino is their vineyards. One of the few bodegas to release single-vineyard wines, their Macharnudo holding is one of the grand crus of Jerez at the highest altitude and located on the famous, and sought-after bright white Albariza chalk soils.

From their savory and fresh Manzanilla Deliciosa and Fino Inocente, to their unctuous and intense Solera 1842 and Pedro Ximenez wines, the quality is world class and the bodega still ferment a proportion of their wines in wood, adding layers of complexity to the finish product. One of the few estates that age in solera far in excess of the DO regulations for all their styles of sherry.

This is outstanding value PX with rasins, Christmas spice, grilled walnut in a lovely rich yet fresh frame. Don't get us wrong, it's sweet and delicious but still comes of with some nice bright citrus peel and orange fruit. Yum!

  4. Gutierrez Colosia Fino del Puerto NV 375ml
Gutierrez Colosia Fino del Puerto NV 375ml

The NV Fino has a delicate nose that suggests a limited time under flor with roasted almonds, flowers and balsamic herbs. The palate is much more powerful, medium-bodied, intense, and dry, with a bitter end. Drink 2013-2014. LUIS GUTIERREZ

The wine is lovely – pretty well a mid-point between Manzanilla and Jerez Finos in style. Coastal, but less overtly briny than La Goya. Delicately earthy with constrained power, like a baby Jerez wine. TSA

  5. Henriques & Henriques Rainwater Medium 3 yo 500ml
Henriques & Henriques Rainwater Medium 3 yo 500ml

Made predominantly from Tinta Negra Mole--with 10% Verdelho in this case-- Henriques & Henriques 3 Year Old blends are produced in an estufa process specifically set up for these wines. They are then aged in oak casks for 3 years prior to bottling. According to legend, "Rainwater" was the result of two pipes of Madeira inadvertently left exposed to the elements while awaiting shipment. The adulterated/diluted wine was apparently well received and thus a style was born. Henriques' version is elegant, golden-coloured wine with vibrant fruitiness and subtle nut hints, finishing with a tangy aftertaste. This bottling makes an excellent aperitif, a partner to light desserts, or as a modifier in a variety of cocktail recipes.

"The bouquet is a nice blend of walnuts, orange peel, a fine base of salty soil tones, a bit of lemon and a topnote of laurel. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely balanced at its notably richer style for Rainwater, with good acidity and good length and grip..." JOHN GILMAN, A View From The Cellar

  6. Delgado Zuleta La Goya Manzanilla
    Delgado Zuleta La Goya Manzanilla
    SANLUCAR DE BARRAMEDA (100% Palomino)

Manzanilla is the appellation name for a Fino sherry which is raised at Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a relatively cool, humid seaside village. The resultant sherry has a definite tang of the sea, and perhaps a suggestion of camomile flower (manzanilla is Spanish for camomile). Much finer, and more delicate than finos from Jerez, inland, and usually bottled at about 15% alcohol.

We bottle and ship fresh every two months, to ensure this definitively crisp, refreshing young white wine is always in spanky form. Camomile and oyster-shell aromatics, Chablis-like mid-palate fruit, long and tangy. SCOTT WASLEY

    Pfeiffer Christophers VP 2015

This has won a swag of gold medals at recent wine shoes. It’s incredible value for money. Evocative and ebullient in its youth it will also age beautifully.

‘…A heady mix of dark chocolate, violets and ripe black berries with lovely brandy spirit giving complexity.  A rich powerful core of blueberries, blackcurrants, allspice and violets with some lovely bitter chocolate tannins to counter the sweetness on the palate. The tannins are fine and chalky. This has a sensational life ahead.’ GABRIELLE POY, PWS

  8. Grahams 10yo Tawny Port 200ml
    Grahams 10yo Tawny Port 200ml
An intensely dry, concentrated, powerful wine that tastes as if it has wines in the blend that are older than 10 years. It is powered with acidity and its firm structure. Yet it is definitely a 10-year-old in style, as the fresh fruit to finish confirms. ROGER VOSS, Wine Enthusiast

Mid bright tawny colour. Light nose. Raisiny fruit but not that vital. A bit low key. Dry, treacley finish. Beautiful packaging... Much drier than the Taylor's version. But actually with lots of interest and more obvious wood-aged character. JANCIS ROBINSON

  10. Toro Albala Oloroso NV 500ml
    Toro Albala Oloroso NV 500ml
From soleras and reserve stocks approaching a century in age, this rich yet elegant dry Oloroso averages over ten years old and displays round, velvety texture and a long finish reminiscent of walnuts and hazelnuts. Non-fortified, the flavours remain consistent and pure throughout. Perfect to drink on its own or together with almonds, smoked food and very mature cheese.  BIBENDUM, Specialist Importers

  11. Mas Amiel Vertigo Blanc 2020
    Mas Amiel Vertigo Blanc 2020
Mas Amiel is one of the  largest properties in Maury, located in the heart of the Agly valley, in France's Roussillon region. Its's rugged and hot and the sweet vin doux natural wines of the south are what it is most famous for. However, as much as we love those we are always super exited about the still wines they produce.

The 'Vertigo' Blanc is a blend of mainly Grenache Gris with a touch of Maccabeu and Roussane/Marsanne. Fresh cut fruits, a touch of citrus and orange peel with a hint of apricot and white pepper. This is soft and plump but with a lovely vain of nervy acidity that makes it bright, fresh and with plenty of verve. Another great winter white in a textural and mid-weight style. PWS

  12. Maidenii Classic Vermouth 750ml
    Maidenii Classic Vermouth 750ml
Classic is red in colour with a much warmer spice range. It has loads more orange-peel flavour, again, cinnamon before cardamom and a sweet, almost strawberry, smell. It has a fuller mouth feel owing to more sugar, rich exotic elixir with a note of toffee. I also want this just on ice – maybe with some ginger beer thrown in. BEN KNIGHT, The Guardian

The Apertif Vermouth uses fully fermented shiraz grapes. Prominent botanicals include orange zest, bay leaf and gentian root. This mix is designed to be savoured solo pre or post dinner, served over ice or chilled with a slice of orange. For a twist, it also works beautifully with Calvados.

  14. Badenhorst Caperitif 'Kaapse Dief' Vermouth 750ml
Badenhorst Caperitif 'Kaapse Dief' Vermouth 750ml

For decades this unique aperitif inspired barmen all over the globe, even making its way into recipes in numerous famous cocktail and referenced in the classic cocktail bible from the late 1800's, the Savoy Cocktail Book. Around 1910, the company that made it disappeared, and with it the product, along with its coveted recipe.

A century later classic Danish mixologist, Lars Lyndgaard met Adi the two took to recreating this once famous 'Cape Apertif' as it was known. Caperitif is handcrafted by infusing Chenin Blanc with the flavours and aromas of some 35 natural botanicals, many of which are unique to the insane biodiversity of the Cape Floral Kingdom.

These are made in batch lots with each batch being subsequently labeled L1, L2... and so on, and so on. Bitter grapefruit, crushed grapes with a gentle quinine bitterness on the nose and palate.Thyme and citrus flood the palate and there is a gentle, spicy warmth with a hint of cinnamon and star-anise. Sweet and citrusy that leads to a persistent and pleasantly bitter finish. This is definitely a beast of it's own and sits somewhere between a Lillet-esk vermouth with a warm southern feel.

  15. Maidenii Sweet Vermouth 750ml
    Maidenii Sweet Vermouth 750ml

When Maidenii was conceived over a year ago, there was no Australian Vermouth on the market. Shaun and Gilles wanted to fill this niche to showcase Australia's unique native botanicals. Their Vermouth uses fresh wine to make a vibrant product distinct from others.

The Sweet Vermouth is made by stoping the fermentation of cabernet grapes. Grapefruit, mace and angelica root all feature. Inspired by the classic Negroni, the Sweet is an ideal element for a white spirit cocktail, or perfect pairing for both soda and cider.

Wonderful packaging aside, this is seriously brilliant to drink or mix. All Australian, very complex with herb, zest, spice and exotic botanicals aromas and flavours. It's got some great brine-meets-chalk texture too, kissed with a touch of glycerol sweetness. A must have. MIKE BENNIE
