  1. Peay Cep Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir 2018
Peay Cep Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir 2018

The 2018 Estate Pinot Noir is an incredible value this vintage, with loads of floral aromas over pure, bright red cherries, dried cranberries and rhubarb with accents of tangerine and dust. The palate is light to medium-bodied with bright, earth and spice-laced flavors, juicy uplift and a long finish. 600 cases were made. ERIN BROOKS, The Wine Advocate

The 2018 Pinot Noir is pretty and perfumed, with lovely aromatic presence and tons of immediate appeal. Dried flowers, cedar, mint and tobacco all grace this mid-weight, perfumed Pinot. The Cep Pinot is all declassified Peay fruit, so it will give readers a very good idea of what the vintage holds for the estate Pinots. Most importantly, this delicious, affordable Pinot is loaded with class. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous.com

Antoine Olivier Santenay Coteaux Sous La Roche Blanc 2017
Hmm, a fresh nose with a little biscuity reduction. Big, bright, rounder, lip-smacking, mineral and saline, finishing with a touch of oak. Simply a beauty. BILL NANSON

From a south facing slope with lots of gravel and shallow top soil.
Lemon oil and baking spice with a big dollop of rocky minerality that imposes itself on the fruit which otherwise offers a real primary, juicy character and has lots of "get up and go" kind of energy to it. My last little note to myself was "I really like this". ROSCOE

Michael Hall Stone Well Shiraz 2017

Stonewell, Stone Well, Stonewall. All in the name.

Strong perfume, fresh and fragrant, red berries, some pine needle and eucalyptus notes, pretty spice dusted over the lot. Lively in the palate, very lush but lifted and silky, so silky. More of the pine needle/mint lift to taste too. It’s such an easy wine to step into and shows off pure, vibrant Barossa fruit so well. MIKE BENNIE, The Wine Front

  4. Fukuju Junmai 720ml
    Fukuju Junmai 720ml

The name Fukuju is derived from one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japanese mythology. Fukuju is a relatively small brewery, making artisan and craft sake. Current owner Yasafuku San is 13th generation.

The house style is very elegant. The water in Nada/Kobe is called Miyamizu, and it is hard water by Japanese standards, full of minerals and is famous water in the ‘sake world’. Nada regional style is dry and has good grip with spiciness.

Water’s influence is very significant in Sake style, and Fukuju use this Miyamizu as well as blending pure water (filtered soft water) to make particular style of Sake. They take ‘water’ seriously in making and developing new way of Sake making.

Fukuju is traditional with a modern approach at the same time. Since the large earthquake in this area in 1995, they built their brewery which is Seismic structure, and are progressing to create ecofriendly and sustainable way of Sake making.

The water in Nada/Kobe is called Miyamizu and is famous because it's full of minerals. Fukuju Junmai Sake is dry and has good grip with spiciness.

  5. Valdicava Rosso di Montalcino 2019
    Valdicava Rosso di Montalcino 2019
Vincenzo Abbruzzese is one of the most outspoken, passionate growers in Montalcino. His beautifully tended vineyards yield some of the richest wines in the region; and that’s where most of the focus is – on the vineyards. The winery itself is unremarkable and is equipped with just the bare essentials. All of the wines are aged in large, neutral oak; what comes through is Abbruzzese’s commitment to low yields, sustainable farming and non-interventionalist winemaking. ANTONIO GALLONI

A stellar effort in a warm year that has produced a plush and sweet style rosso that is all but Brunello in name. This is vibrant and rich at the same time with sweet spice peppered over the warm cherry and black raspberry fruits that spill out the glass. Plenty of depth but remains light on its feet. Great stuff! PWS

  6. Scala Dei Priorat Vi de Vila Garnacha 2019
Scala Dei Priorat Vi de Vila Garnacha 2019

Limpid ruby-red. Spice- and mineral-tinged raspberry and cherry aromas are joined by building florality. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering vibrant fruit, lavender pastille and spicecake flavors supported by a spine of smoky minerality. Fine-grained tannins add shape and grip to a long, spicy finish that echoes the floral note. JOSH RAYNOLDS, Vinous Media
