  1. Vicoletto Scicilia Catarratto Bianco 2020
    Vicoletto Scicilia Catarratto Bianco 2020

Made from Catarratto, a native grape to Sicily, which is cultivated in the northwestern part of the island. The soils are clay and sand, and the climate is very windy, cool, and dry. Small yields and dedicated winemaking combine to produce a wine that is fresh, versatile and enjoyable.

The vivacity of Sicilian citrus and a hint of pineapple capture your attention, and a luscious texture typical of catarratto makes it perfect to match with seafood. Unfiltered, unfined, vegan, low sulphite.

  2. Picollo Ernesto Gavi 2020
    Picollo Ernesto Gavi 2020
Gavi is a classification of wine made from the Cortese grape variety. It produces aromatic wines with bright acidity which match incredibly well with seafood. Gavi's location is quite proximate to the sea, although it's separated by the Ligurian Alps.

Gianlorenzo Picollo oversees the small estate with his wife Silvia, and together they manage the winery with Gianlorenzo's parents. Fifteen hectares of Cortese vineyards with vines up to 80 years old are cultivated by traditional methods, and without the use of chemicals.

A little punch of lime atop green pear and apple aromas are followed by nice wet stone fresh cut mountain herb that linger lightly. Dry zesty on the palate finishing with a crunch of acidity and appley tang. Nice little bit of texture rounds out some of the angles nicely. A great summer drink.

  3. Petilia Le Sepaie Irpinia Aglianico 2017
Petilia Le Sepaie Irpinia Aglianico 2017
In the 2017 Aglianico Le Sepaie I’m finding a savory display, leading off with a whiff of animal musk and smoky minerals, as notes of black cherry, spice, violet florals, and dark earth tones come forward. On the palate, soft textures give way to fresh red fruits, offset by zesty acids and spice, as a coating of minerals drench the senses. The finish is long yet energetic, as acids linger, along with spicy red berries and a hint of young tannin. The 2017 Le Sepaie has energy to burn and drinks beautifully today, yet it should also excel over the next five or more years in the cellar. It offers tremendous value. ERIC GUIDO, Vinous Media

  4. Colomba Bianca Nero d'Avola Resilience 2018
Colomba Bianca Nero d'Avola Resilience 2018

Colomba Bianca is a Sicilian Vine Growers Cooperative located in Western Sicily, Italy. It was founded in 1970 and today is one of the biggest Sicilian Cooperative.

The company today, can count on 2500 partners and extends along 7500 hectars of vineyards with 5 wineries distributed in the whole territory. The vineyards can be found in areas which benefit of a vast pedoclimatic diversity, from the low coastal areas up to an altitude of 600 metres above sea level: chalky, clay and sandy soils.

Combo of ripe dark, morello cherries intermixed with wild strawberries and raspberries, hints of orange peel and oriental spices. Ripe fleshy mouthfeel with velvet smooth tannins that melt away into vanilla, coffee and cocoa. Mouth-filling and warm with spicy hints of pepper on the finish. Remains nicely vibrant and fresh despite some of its more broody looking tasting notes.

  6. Monteguelfo Chianti DOCG 2020
    Monteguelfo Chianti DOCG 2020
Wow! This was such a wonderful surprise and terrific value Chianti from the estates of Andrea Cecchi. Made from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino, the wine does not see any oak and has a tradiotional leaning and plenty of character, particularly for a wine at this price. The Cecchi family has 125 years of winemaking history and have some excellent vineyards at their disposal.

It's a wonderfully vibrant & fresh expression of sangiovese that retains its fleshy and soft fruits throughout with a pillowy texture. Hints of black cherry and wild forest fruits with a touch of leather and some savoury dried herbs.

  7. Fontaleoni Rosato Condorino IGT Toscana 2020
Fontaleoni Rosato Condorino IGT Toscana 2020

Fontaleoni is a family estate run by brother and sister team, Matteo and Simona Troiani, with a little help from consultant Paolo Caciorgna. They've succeeded in producing a range that is emblematic of the best of what the region has to offer with particular emphasis on Vernaccia.

Like all their wines they get the primo treatment in the winery. A blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Merlot this presents with a top note of rose-petal, plum, and wild cranberry. Its bright and crunchy mouthfeel gives way to soft red fruits and that sangiovese sour cherry we all know and love. I don't know why we don't see more sangiovese base rose as they seem to get that balance of savoury and sweet so well, especially when they are pink.

  8. Bellenda Sei Uno Prosecco Metodo Classico DOCG 2018
Bellenda Sei Uno Prosecco Metodo Classico DOCG 2018

The Bellenda crew are a bunch of crazy cats trying to start a small revolution in Prosecco. They are hell-bent on upping the quality. Firstly the property is located in the DOCG zone on the hills surrounding Carpesica, the heart of quality in the region, where as the bulk standard prosecco you see littering shelves all over the world tends to be grown down on the flats outside of the traditional area.

Fesh cut yellow apple and dried flowers overlay a hint of quartz twang. Delicate but persistent bubbles that open to a salty and savory note finished with a little preserved lemon. This is deliciously dry and super refreshing. It definitely runs to a more serious style but has plenty of fruit to be enjoyed without thinking too hard.

  9. Le Marie Dolcetto d'Alba 2020
    Le Marie Dolcetto d'Alba 2020

The winery "Le Marie" comes from the passion for winemaking of the owner Valerio, his wife Luigina, and their children Simona and Daniele. The result are wines of personality, pure and elegant, produced in limited quantity and in respect of the territory, with environmentally friendly practices. The ten hectares of vineyards are between 400 and 450 meters. The land is rich in minerals that give the wines great structure and wonderful nuance.

Packed full of up-front blue and red fruits laced with peppery spice and vanilla. The palate is pliant and soft with a little nervy energy that flows through the red raspberry and currant fruit. A soft little snap of tannin that buttresses the sweet fruit nicely adds a little extra complexity. This is perfect trattoria fair and super versatile on the dinner table.

  10. Kris Wines Pinot Grigio 2020
    Kris Wines Pinot Grigio 2020
From one of the masters of North Eastern Italy, Franz Haas, comes the ‘Kris’ Pinot Grigio. This is their ‘entry’ level Grigio but absolutely over delivers as a bang-for-your-buck drop.

White peach and crunchy tree fruits to the fore with a gently spiced, quartz/mineral nose. The palate is clean as a whistle with a core of sweet white fruits cut with bright, zippy acidity. At the same time the palate is generous with a lovely textural element that gives it nice weight and punch while always remaining bright and fresh. Another fantastic effort!

  11. Sensale Grillo 2020
    Sensale Grillo 2020
IF you don't know it Grillo is a native to the island of Sicily and the Sensale bottling from Cantine Europa has to be one of the best value options around. The wine comes from the western part of the island and is made without any use of oak and is deliberately styled for early and easy drinking.

Notes of citrus, pear and stone fruits open with a bit of sea-spray action that lends a slightly salty twang to both the nose and pallet. There is definitely a bit of flesh and punchy fruit with citrus to the fore followed by a little stone fruit and minerally hit. We love the way the fruit and savoury clip play off each other in the mouth and just a little hint of bitterness make this the perfect pairing to Mediterranean seafood. Mwah!

  12. Luccarelli Primitivo 2020
    Luccarelli Primitivo 2020

The Terre di Sava winery was founded in 2008 and today produces a range of wines designed to celebrate the wine-making history of Sava, within Puglia (South East Italy).

Located just to the west of Manduria (the town after which the Primitivo di Manduria DOC is named) on the Salento Peninsula, the “land of Sava” is the land of the gnarled old bush vines that produce the Primitivo grape destined for this rich and earthy expression of Puglia.

Primitivo 100% - Salento,Puglia. Lots of red fruit to the fore and a sweet spice hit that gives a lovely warmth to the fruit. This is plump, mid-weight and very gluggable. Perfect with grilled meats and would happily stand-up to any Aussie BBQ fair you could throw at it.
