Gutierrez-Colosia

The Gutiérrez Colosía wineries are the only ones located by the riverside, right on the quay and probably the closest to the ocean of all sherry bodegas. The dry Levante and the humid Poniente winds regulate the surrounding moisture level. Given the optimal environmental conditions, the activity of the flor is particularly pronounced here. PWS

Gutierrez Colosia is an old winery in the Puerto de Santa Maria, created in 1838 near the Guadalete River. They were originally almacenistas, and they only started bottling and selling their wines as recently as 1997. Gutierrez is a very common surname in Spain, but as far as I know, they are not relatives of mine. All their wines have a powerful, concentrated profile with high dry extract and a touch of rusticity. LUIS GUTIERREZ
