Winemaker Mike Paterson has used connections gained throughout his previous experience to source grapes from trusted growers throughout the Marlborough region with an eye to create single-vineyard wines that resonate with a sense of place.

Previous vintages have Lisa Perrotti-Brown of robertparker.com in a spin and the current releases have been introduced to the Australian market amongst plenty of well-deserved hype. They aren't made in large quantities and the small portion that's come over for the Australian market have barely touched down before nearly selling out. So much so that reviews are thin on the ground. Upon tasting the wines this week though, they received a unanimous thumbs-up from myself and the rest of the team at PWS for what is such keen and thoughtful winemaking.

Make no mistake: Marlborough's success has brought about its own downfall. It's refreshing to see someone producing brilliant and expressive pinot noir in a region infamous for commercial sauvignon blanc. These are wines of poise and the most exciting thing we have seen from New Zealand since the Burn Cottage project.
