Jean Marc Bouley

Jean-Marc Bouley's son Thomas (who has been making the wines for the last several vintages) calls 2010 "a grand Burgundian classic. While I don't have decades of experience, this is the best vintage that I have ever seen. The wines have such terrific energy and what I find interesting is that even before that harvest when I tasted the grapes to check on ripeness levels I could sense the energy. We began picking on the 23rd of September and due to the lousy flowering, yields were very small and the grapes had extremely thick skins. There were also lots of shot berries which signaled in advance that we were going to produce very concentrated wines with high levels of phenolic maturity. There was absolutely no rot because of the cool conditions and thus there was virtually no sorting work required. I love the 2010s as they're everything that I want to make, clean, cool, energetic and harmonious wines with really lovely finesse. If I could sign a contract to make wines like this every year, I'd sign it immediately! Really, the only negative about the vintage are the tiny yields as we produced only 28 hl/ha." As is typically the case, Bouley indicated the wines will be bottled without fining or filtration.

I have said this before but it bears repeating. Thomas Bouley is a first-rate young talent and I predict that you will be hearing a lot more about his wines going forward. BURGHOUND
