The Correggia winery continues to set the pace for other wineries in the area, providing topics for discussion and food for thought. This is the way of things ever since the much-mourned Matteo showed just how much potential there was in an apparently marginal area. Today, Ornella and her exceptional staff is a champion of sustainable viticulture. Correggia's natural approach means working the land in the full awareness of the surrounding environment. It's another field in which Correggia is leading the way, sensibly and without ostentation.  GAMBERO ROSSO

There is a lot to like in these new releases from Matteo Correggia. I have been drinking the Correggia wines since my student days, and have rarely been disappointed, especially at the entry-level, where so many of these wines also deliver fabulous value. ANTONIO GALLONI

Before he tragically passed away in 2001 Matteo Correggia had proved, via the excellence of his wines, that the Roero district in Piemonte could rival its more highly-regarded neighbours in the Langhe with nebbiolo, barbera and arneis. By pioneering specific sites that closely replicated the soil composition of the great Langhe vineyards he created wines that have now become household names to any afficiaonado of these classic Piemontese varieties. Wines like the single-vineyard, Val dei Preti and Rocche d'Ampsej (nebbiolo) are now as sought after as some of the more highly prized Baroli and Barbaresco, and his entry level nebbiolo (Roero) and Arneis are seriously lovely and inexpensive introductions to their respective varieties.

Today the estate is run by his wife Ornella alongside her children Giovanni (now assisting long-time winemaker Luca Rostagno) and Brigitte. This new generation has shown a willingness to evolve the style away from overtly oaky wines to wine hung on the natural aromatics and textures of the varieties. The future is very bright at this pioneering estate.  PWS
