Pietradolce

Sicily - Mt Etna
Located in Solicchiata, Michele Faro is among the new faces on Etna and a member of the fledgling group winemakers known as the “Etna Boys.” The estate was founded in 2005 and has 11 hectares of vineyard on the north face of Etna ranging from 600 to 900 meters above sea level. Pietradolce was developed with the help of consulting oenologist Carlo Ferrini. THE WINE ADVOCATE

Whilst there are many unique terroirs in the world, few can rival the sheer drama of the vineyards planted on the slopes of Europe's highest active volcano, Mt Etna. This bizarre and beautiful landscape and the unique mineral laden soils provide the backdrop for some of the highly sought after wines in the world today. Whilst the modern winemaking fraternity is relatively young in terms of estate history (the area was abondoned after WWII and only reinvigorated in the 1990s) the impact of the wines from Nerello Mascarlese has been profound. One of the better producers to emerge in recent years has been the estate of Pietradolce. A combination of excellent vineyards in the best areas, combined with clean winemaking and snappy packaging make for some compelling wines that seem to get better with every new release. PWS
