Wagner Stempel

This estate lies in the far northwestern corner of Rheinhessen on the border of the Nahe in a region known locally as little Switzerland. In light of the comparatively high-altitude stony soils, with layers of quartzite and porphyry, it is not surprising that these rieslings are crisp and refreshing. Although they show both poise and character, their salty acid backbone gives them a style not seen elsewhere in Germany. JOEL B. PAYNE, Vinous

Wagner-Stempel is one of my favorite producers in the Rheinhessen because the wines of Daniel Wagner are unique: they are clear like a mountain stream, crystalline, fresh and mineral as if they came from the Nahe. In fact the climate and soils are more similar to the situation in the upper Nahe than to other areas in the Rheinhessen…. fascinatingly precise, pure and elegant and there are hardly any better village wines in the region than the Riesling trio from Wagner-Stempel. There is no lack of anything whereas the richer "GG" crus are more textured and mouth-filling, with the crystalline purity still hiding under the creamy texture. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine Advocate
