I tasted these in their infancy around this time in 2016 and remember being quite taken by the fleshy fruit and vibrancy. Even at this early stage you could really see the potential of the vintage. Talking to Claire yesterday she commented that the vintage was nearly ideal with a long and even season that resulted in great fruit. All of the promise I could see in 16 really has come together and the Moonlight Race is full of juicy, bright fruit that leaves an almost lipstick sense of lip puckering sweetness that initially encompasses the more savoury, subtle notes that come more to the fore after a vigorous swirl. This really is a lovely amalgam of buoyant fruit and sophisticated winemaking. It's a joy to drink. ROSCOE

Pinot from estate source and Mark II (Pisa) and Northburn (Northburn) sub-regions.
Fleshy, fuller figured Otago pinot expression, laden with ripe cherry fruits, sweet spice, some earthy-charry characters, and an orange-y acidity. While ostensibly 'fruitier' it's also quite firmly in the amaro-Campari spectrum of pinot, hemmed with chalky tannins, driving with authority across the palate. Loaded with character/structure. Good, bold wine this.  MIKE BENNIE, The Wine Front
