Brilliant ruby-red. A hugely expressive, seductively perfumed bouquet evokes ripe dark fruits, potpourri and licorice, lifted by a smoky mineral overtone. Concentrated yet lively in style, showing noteworthy clarity and thrust to the cherry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors. Becomes nervier and spicier on the youthfully tannic finish, which hangs on with superb tenacity. 95 points. JOSH RAYNOLDS, Vinous

Ripe and fresh, with good purity to the mix of red currant and damson plum coulis flavors that stretch out against a floral and alder backdrop. Offers a pretty, piercing feel to the finish. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Clairette. Best from 2020 through 2030. 200 cases imported. JM, Wine Spectator

From a cool site at 300-400 meters above sea level, the 2017 Gigondas Terrasse du Diable is a blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Mourvèdre. It boasts knockout aromas of violets, garrigue and purple raspberries, with an undercurrent of black cherries. It's full-bodied and concentrated, with bright, crunchy acids. The overall impression is of a wine with sharper edges than the harmonious 2016 or 2018. Cellar it a couple of years and then enjoy it over the following decade. JOE CZERWINSKI, Wine Advocate
