100% Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina

From two vineyards, Uco at 1500 metres above sea level & Lujan de Cuyo 1100 metres above sea level.  The first wine ever produced by Matias Riccitelli in 2009 is now in its fifth incarnation--the 2014 Vineyard Selection. It is a blend of Malbec from a number of vineyards in the Vistalba zone, Perdriel and La Consulta, so from a diversity of terroirs from Mendoza. It fermented in small cement pools with indigenous yeasts and matured in French barriques until bottling in October 2015. It has a very harmonious nose with notes of violets and ripe cherries, a pinch of spices and a silky palate with round tannins, easy but not banal, with enough punch, keeping the balance. The oak is very well integrated into the wine, a huge improvement from the 2012 I tasted last time. LUIS GUTIERREZ
