Founded in 1980s in the Fittà cru and since 2001, run by four sisters, Arianna, Meri, Valentina and Alessandra. Monte Carbonare cru is 28 ha of basaltic rocks with clay, and slopes on a 10–30% incline. 100% Garganega. Old vines on pergola. Low skin contact. No MLF. 15 months on lees. Aim to express terroir.

Pale lemon. Ripe pear and camomile, with some integrated, nutty spice and mellow pepper. Brisk acidity, with bright, ripe pear, toasted almond and smoke, refined phenolics and a marked, finish salinity that coats the lips and tongue. Genuinely lip-smacking. Refreshing and long. Tim Jackson MW,

Bright straw yellow. Lively aromas and flavors of fresh nectarine, white peach, jasmine, and minerals. Then lemony and juicy, but with very good size to the fresh citrus and orchard fruit flavors. Finishes long and saline with harmonious acidity nicely extending the flavors and providing clarity and cut. An outstanding Soave Classico that offers lots of flavor and only 12.5% alcohol. IAN D’AGATA, Vinous

This is one of the top very small handful of Soave produced every year and always released to ample praise for the critics around the traps but usually just after the wines hit the market. The Monte Carbonare a regular recipient of the Tre Bicchieri.

The 2017 Monte Carbonare effortlessly marries the richness of the vintage with the snap and verve the sight always delivers. It has wonderful freshness and focus but a bold intensity to the pome fruit, nectarine and slightly exotic notes that finish with a saline twang that is super invigorating. As always I love this wine. ROSCOE
