We find Alabarino can be so hit and miss in the market her in Aus. Which is unfortunate given that when done well this stuff is so tasty. Since 2006, Xurxo Alba is the visible face of Albamar and this family run winery and after losing his job as a brick-layer returned to the family fold.

He has been shaping these wines for the last few years though freely admits his parents are still the bosses. Outside of Galicia their wines are getting some well deserved attention and rightly so. From a 2ha vineyard, it was whole-bunch pressed and fermented using indigenous yeasts before spending five months on lees.

There is sweet tropical aromatics that present with a citrusy flecks and orange pith. There is a lovely juicy orange/lime fruit are off-set with zippy fresh acidity and a lovely salty tang and mineral edging. The time on lees adds a bit of grip texture that tugs on the fruit nicely and gives this a significant edge over so much of the tutty-fruity Albarino on the market. PWS
