Hand-picked, whole berry-fermented, 14-20 days on skins, matured in French oak (10% new) for 7 months. The bouquet has red fruits to the fore, spice and earth thereafter. Hoddles Creek Estate is unchallenged as the producer of the best value pinot noirs in the country, precision viticulture is the starting point. The palate delivers the red fruits promised by purity of the bouquet and which run through to the finish and aftertaste. (94) JAMES HALLIDAY

What a gift to Pinot Noir drinkers these Wickhams Road wines are. Cherries, crushed exotic spices, a little earthy undergrowth. Medium-bodied, juiciness of fruit kept in check by fine grained and persistent tannin, pleasing precision, cool almost 'minerally' acidity, and gentle grip shaping up a pretty long finish. It's really good, and likely better again with some time in bottle, though no problem enjoying it now. Verity and quality. I'd recommend this pretty highly. GARY WALSH, The Wine Front
