The Parcelle label is all about finding a special...well...parcel -  a section of vineyard, a barrel we like or a couple to blend and make a new entity. There's no price ceiling (or floor for that matter) and whatever appears under the label is something we think is special in quality and value.

The second in the series is a Pinot Gris from one of Australia's emerging winemaking stars in Tess Brown. The first time I met her she was sitting on a traffic island in Barolo holding a card with my name on it, ala a hitchhiker on the Hume Hwy. We were both guests at fellow Aussie and Barbaresco winemaker, Dave Fletcher's place. At that time Tess was working at the famed Barolo estate of Beppe Rinaldi and this was a rare day off. While the memory of the BBQ isn't that clear, one thing that stayed with me about Tess was her enormous passion for her profession and an intellect driven by a search a genuine sense of inquiry. PWS

Dried pear and apple skin aromas are framed by a gentle waft of spice and white flowers. On the palate the wine is full of energy, bright and lively but with a nice slippery texture to complement the chiseled and defined fruit flavours. All the elements are balanced which is so important with this variety. The wine is delicious and will pair with a number of dishes from charcuterie through to poultry or fish. It's a far more serious pinot gris than it's price tag would suggest. Buy it. MICHAEL MCNAMARA, Prince Wine Store
