Flagship By Farrs
There is one overarching philosophy that adds meaning to Nick’s work: that wine is part of life, a way of living. It accompanies everything he does, and to perfect it, you have to play the long game. GOURMET TRAVELLER WINE

This has all the class of Grand Cru Burgundy. NICK STOCK, jamessuckling.com on Tout Pres
It has been a massive year for Nick and the team at Geelong’s by Farr. Their mid-year releases were lauded by punters and critics alike clocking in big scores and florid reviews. Then last month Nick Farr took out Gourmet Traveller Wine’s Winemaker of the Year award, joining his father Gary in the winner’s circle after 19 years. So today, with the release of the flagship wines, there is huge excitement and anticipation.
The trio of wines represent a lifetime’s work for the Farr family. Tout Pres represents the zenith of Gary Farr’s monk-like dedication to producing monumental Pinot Noir. It is a landmark wine that changed the way people thought about Australian born Pinot Noir. Deep, powerful, introspective and long lived. Later it was joined by the GC Chardonnay and the RP Pinot Noir, named in dedication to Gary and his wife, and Nick’s mother, Robyn. Both wines are drawn from the estate’s Cote Vineyard and speak with wonderful transparency of this exceptional site. The RP Pinot Noir is a wonderful counterpoint to Tout Pres, perfumed, pliant, pure and long. The GC Chardonnay too turns up the dial on their estate release, powerful and precise and punching through to the upper echelons of Australian Chardonnay which is no mean feat for a winery that has been regarded by many as the premier Pinot Noir producer in the country.
These are wines that do not require a long-winded introduction. The Farr’s have been doing that work for me for the last 20 odd years. Put simply these are the very best wines, crafted by the best winemaker from some of the best sites in the country.
Please note there are no third-party reviews currently available as these wines have just been released, but rest assured when they do arrive, they will be full of praise. I have included Nick’s notes on the wines below. Nick, typically stoic, is not known for hyperbole.
