Le Tertre du Lys dOr 2017

On the 2017 vintage:

…wines that are rich and exotic yet refreshing, sporting plenty of botrytis-laced depth and incredible staying power.  LISA PERROTTI-BROWN, wineadovacte.com

There is not going to be much of it to go round but what there is will be really excellent, perhaps yet again the best part of the Bordeaux vintage, very concentrated but also beautifully lively and fine. BILL BLATCH, jancisrobinson.com

One of our favourite Sauternes is back. The last few times Roscoe has offered this striking dessert wine he described it as ‘a feeding frenzy of Sauternes.’ This time it’s basking in its intense glory from the eyewatering low yields of the 2017 vintage. Yields were low, but quality was high. Eric Kohler of Chateau Rieussec remarked 2017 is ‘a great great vintage for Sauternes.’ This is one of the best value Sauternes around, these are full 750ml bottles.

Le Tertre du Lys d’Or is a negociant bottling. It’s an insider’s wine. The wine is selected from an estate in Sauternes, barrels that don’t make the cut for their estate’s own wine (which sells for four figures!). They can’t tell you their source, but they are not subtle in their hints. The wine is declassified from one of the most prestigious sweet wine estates on the planet. The last bit you can work out for yourself.

The 2017 vintage in Sauternes was warm and dry early on, and then a sweeping cool change calmed down the ripening and preserved freshness and acidity. It has the hallmarks of a great Sauternes, upfront opulence and richness and a long bright tail of acidity enlivens the palate.

At four years of age, it’s still incredibly youthful and bound. Time in the cellar will allow it to gain a little girth in all the right places. It will age beautifully as a 750ml full-size bottle. This has decades ahead of it, though its youthful charm makes it hard to resist already. With time, tertiary tones will tame its ebullient nature adding even more complexity.

We’re offering a 20% discount in a 6 pack ($318), and even more in a dozen buy ($600).  Stocks are good, but at these prices, for such a pedigreed Sauternes they will go fast.
