Massolino Zoom Tasting 2021

Massolino has really been on a roll over the last few vintages… truly impressive wines that further solidify the estate's place among the elite producers of Barolo. While these wines have been terrific for quite some time, in recent years Massolino has found an added element of finesse and nuance. ANTONIO GALLONI

The Massolino family have been making Barolo in the iron rich soils of their native Serralunga for over a century. Among their holdings are some of the regions finest sites including Margheria, Parafada and of course Vigna Rionda, a site that is almost synonymous with the family. In more recent times they have also added a holding in Parussi vineyard in neighbouring Castigilone Falletto.

The wines are best described as modern-classic; the result of employing technology in the initial vinification and then maturation in large Slovenian oak. The wines highlight the very different exposures and soil compositions of the respective vineyards while, at the same time maintaining the distinctive Serralunga depth, muscularity and ferrous backbone so typical of the wines of the village. In addition they are also defined by lovely purity and clarity.
