  1. Morgado de Silgueiros Tinto 2015
    Morgado de Silgueiros Tinto 2015
Adega de Silgueiros produces wines that punch above their weight. For a long time considered a go to producer for great value wines. Using all the typical red Dao varieties of Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz, their wines display the typical red, blue and black fruit characters of these varieties. The Dao has a very particular character due to the higher altitudes and iconic granite soils. Juicy, pretty, structured and a super performer at this price point. Dao at its most accessible. I am always impressed how Portuguese wines often manges to get such fruity instensity but manage to stay vibrant and fresh. This is no wilting flower mind you but given the climate of the region it always has a lovely light touch to it.

  2. April Mixed Dozen 2021 - Autumn Drinking: 40 Degrees South
April Mixed Dozen 2021 - Autumn Drinking: 40 Degrees South
There are only a select few, perfect locations, to grow great wine on this big blue orb of ours and those are between 30 and 50 degrees north and south latitudes. Those regions need to provide just the right temperature, humidity, heat and climate to grow high quality grapes. We are absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to the northern reaches with the whole of Europe at our disposal, but travel further south and things are a little different.

While New Zealand and Tasmania provide us with plenty of choices (and we would be remiss not to include them) the southern reaches sitting on and just below the 40 degrees latitude offer a up a wholy unique drinking experience.

While grapes like riesling, cabernet and pinot noir are familiar to us, a number of the wines in this months pack aren't seen so regularly on your local wines list or on the shelves of your corner wine store. From Malbec's in Argentina to the infamous Pinotage and the more classic varietals like Chenin in South Africa this is an exploration of all that is good in these great southern lands of ours.

Where do we start with such an awesome selection of interesting wine? It's hard to decide we might just do a quick run down by country.

South America is relatively new to the wine scene but has come along in leap and bounds. WE start with a couple of classics with the Finca Los Moras Malbec and the Santa Ana Cabernet. These are text book varietal wines with plenty to love in their up-front fruit and modern styling. For something a little different we through in the Bouchon pais. For those who do not know, Pais is an old variety that is Chile's answer to pinot noir. With a little more bite and a wild flourish this a great introduction to this fascinating wine.

Closer to home in New Zealand we have few classic drops with the Palliser Estate Pencarrow pinot. A wine you would be hard pressed to find with the structure, concentration and complexity at the same price. Off to Hawkes Bay for some stonking Chardonnay from Bilancia fame and some of the world most underrated syrah from stars Te Mata. What a treat!

Just in our backyard, Tassie continues to pump out some of the best wine in the country and while we would never miss out on showcasing another great pinot there is some real winners with pinot gris and riesling on the rise. The Moores Hill gris is a freat example of textural and vibrant gris from the Apple Isle with the Riversdale riesling hot on its tale.

And for something a little different we have got the latest release Willie Smiths Cider. This is an absolute belter, and we couldn't help but included it once we were told it had been released. Perfect timing! We will take that one!

Last, and something we don't see much in Aus is a cracking selection of wines from South Africa. Long-term customers may recognise some of these wines and as far as we are concerned, they are some of the best modern day Cape wines to make it over. The Bare Bones cinsault is a zippy red full of energy while the Winery of Good Hope pinotage is a juicy and fun take on this classic red variety,

And what would a selection of wine from South Africa be without a chenin blanc. The Secateurs is clean and crunchy with a plush fruit profile that is cleaned up by chenin's zippy acidity.
All in al a pretty awesome and exciting collection of stellar wines from the great south!

  5. December Party Pack 2023 - Spirits of Christmas Pack
December Party Pack 2023 - Spirits of Christmas Pack

This is a little bonus pack this year and what not!? It's been another tough one and we want to make sure you make the most of the end of year's shenanigans. The weather is warming up, we're getting together to celebrate with friends and family and a little time off is coming our way.

So, to get in the mood we have put together a little emergency party pack to get you in the spirit - pun intended.

First, we have included the ingredients to make the perfect summer spritz with a bottle of Canonita Mallorca Orange Apertivo and a bottle of Alpino prosecco. We don't care what ratio you are pouring these in but plenty of ice, a dash of soda and this will have you ready to rock-n-roll

The pack also includes one of the finest gins on the market from Copper Rivert Distillery. This perfectly poised gin goes great with soda or tonic or try it with a dash Doline Dry vermouth for spot-on dry Martini.

    Alpino Prosecco NV

Who is Alpino? Who cares! Because this is cracking!

It's a juicy, fresh Prosecco from the cold upper reaches of the alps of the King Valley, Victoria and it delivers everything you could want in a super smart package. A touch of spearmint on the nose, crisp green apple and a hint of fresh sliced tree fruits. The palate opens with a hit of sherbet flavours that are driven through by a bright, creamy and crackling fizz. This is going go down as easy on its own as it would in a spritz. A real crowd pleaser here.

    Canonita - Aperitivo de Mallorca

Canonita! What is it? Think Aperol but better. Ok. Bold statement but this stuff is absolutely delicious. It's made from the best organic Canoneta oranges from Mallorca's Sóller Valley.

The Valley is located on Mallorca's northwest coast and sheltered by the Tramuntana mountains is a magic place. Thanks to its unique terroir it is the centre of citrus cultivation in Mallorca for over  a  1000 years and the valley is theoriginal home of the highly aromatic Canoneta orange, considered the "queen of oranges".

Carefully crafted by Antonio Nadal, Mallorca's oldest and most renown distillery, the Canoneta essence is blended with white wine and refined with a secret selection of herbs from our beautiful island.

Its beautifully fragrant with fresh crushed orange, citrus peel, delicate sweet floral notes and a gentle bitterness of fresh cut herbs. This is perfect as a spritz or even with tonic but honestly we would happily drink it with ice and a dash soda as an apertif all summer long.

Copper Rivet Dockyard Gin 500ml 41.2% alc

Distilled using locally grown barley and Kentish water, this is as fresh and bright as a sunny spring day in the countryside. Elegant and refined gin, with a lovely, half floral, half herbal lift. I tasted it before learning what botanicals had been used in its production, and suspect its fragrant quality comes from the local elderflowers. MAX ALLEN

Ingredients: Italian Juniper berries, locally sourced elderflower, Bulgarian Coriander seeds, Spanish orange peel, Italian lemon peel, Guatemala green cardamom, grains of paradise from Africa, European Angelica root and Orris root, our own neutral grain spirit and Kentish chalk filtered water.

  6. February Mixed Dozen 2024 - Mighty Half Bottles
February Mixed Dozen 2024 - Mighty Half Bottles

    Clos Clare Riesling 2022 375ml

Particularly good intensity to be found in the 2022 Clare Valley Rieslings.

Lime, pink grapefruit, bath salts, a little spice, thyme and generally good waft of perfume. It’s intense, with a grapefruit pith and gin and tonic flavour, lime/lemon sorbet, a stony chalky feel, clean acidity, excellent length, with a pleasing quinine and lime zest tang to close. Classic Watervale. A terrific vintage for this wine. GARY WALSH, The Wine Front

Salomon Undhof Gruner Veltliner Wieden 2021 375ml

Salomon Undhof is a figurehead of the Austrian wine history. White wines have been produced here from some of the best ‘Grand Cru’ locations along the Danube for 225 years. Well-known vineyards like Steiner Kögl, Pfaffenberg, Lindberg or Wachtberg … Thanks to Bert Salomon, the winery today mainly stands for excellent dry Rieslings and Grüner Veltliner - long-lasting, elegant wines for which the house is famous. PETER MOSER, Falstaff, August 2019

Classic looking white pepper with fresh cut apple and bosch pear squeezed with a little lemon twist and sprinkled with soft, green herbs. Certainly not light but not big or bold. Comes with a gentle grip and lick of phenolics. Zingy finish with a flourish of green tree fruits and a little mineral twang out the back.

Red Claw by Yabby Lake Pinot Gris 2022 375ml

MarkHandpicked fruit was whole bunch pressed into tank. After cold settling overnight, juice was racked to another tank for fermentation. Parcels left on yeast lees until June to gain mouth feel and complexity, then bottled.

This Red Claw Pinot Gris has lovely freshness, lifted floral aromas and clean, crisp fruit flavours.  Showing a hint of nashi pear, subtle spice and a long, finely textured palate.

    Pieropan Soave 2022 375ml

The 2022 Soave Classico is a total pleasure on the nose. Sweet smoke and mint nuances complement tropical green melon notes. This soothes with its soft textures while stimulating the senses with a zesty mix of brisk acidity and candied citrus. It tapers off crisp and clean with an inner floral resonance as lemon oil traces slowly fade. I would drink this any night of the week. What a treat. (Lot# 15.02.23) ERIC GUIDO, Vinous

Pieropan remains one of the greatest estates in Soave and their entry level Soave is one of the best value whites in Italy. We have not wavered on this in many, many years. Soave, east of Verona: encircled by the original enclosures of the town and dominated by a 13th century fortress. At the heart of the Classico zone lies the Pieropan property, which dates back to 1890.

    Moorooduc Estate Chardonnay 2021 375ml

Too easy to sit back and relax with a glass of this just-right wine. Not overly complex but well composed and flavoursome. Some funky sulphides add to the enjoyment with leesy texture and an intriguing bourbon-malty character. JANE FAULKNER, Halliday Wine Companinon

Chateau du Rouet Cuvee Reserve Cotes de Provence Rose 2021 375ml

Never judge a book buy it's cover right? Mostly, you see the colour of this and you at least know you are on good footing to begin with. It's pale, like a blush of peach. Properly dry with a splash of sweet citrus, mandarin, ripe red grapefruit, a just tart orange aspect and then some lovely peach notes. All this is underpinned by a bright, clear, palate cleansing freshness and a nice pithy texture that licks at the sides of your mouth. It's long and energising, it both slackens the thirst with its buoyant, uplifting feel and engages the old taste buds and sets the salivary glands quivering. Who doesn't love Rose like this? It's so enjoyable to drink.

Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2020 375ml

There's no mistaking the purity of fruit at the center of the bouquet - red cherries and ripe sweet plum, some raspberry and baked strawberry suggestions. Oak layers in some complexity and spice and the varietal signature is enhanced by a fine layer of mineral silty soil scents. Taut and youthful on the palate with a core of red berry fruit flavours, plums and tart strawberry. Tannins and acidity accentuate the youthful mouthfeel adding foundation structure and power. While drinkable today I suggest you cellar this wine till late 2023 and try again. Excellent drinking from early 2024 through 2030+. CAM DOUGLAS MS

What's not to love about this latest release from the legends at Ata Rangi!? While the Crimson was always a nice wine it seems the last 5 or so years this "entry level" bottling has moved more in line to be sister wine to the estate release. The quality seems to have hit new heights and whether it is old vines or tweaked winemaking we are happily enjoying the fruits of their labour.

Pierre Marie Chermette Beaujolais Les Griottes Beaujolais 2022 375ml

The perfume fills up the nostrils. It smells good. Appetising. Bright cherry, sweet orange, raspberries. They are on the firm side, crunchy, fresh. Damp earth and violets lay underneath. Then chewy texture with wet clay tannins fills the mouth. It’s just pure cherry juice that makes for an excellent thirst quencher and I’m pretty sure it’s also good for your health. KASIA SOBIESIAK, The Wine Front

From one of the greats out of Beaujolais at the top of his game and from a stellar vintage. The Griottes is sourced around from several sites around Pierre-Marie's home town and blended together. These wines see no oak essentially (some very large and very old) and are all about purity and freshness but with lovely deliniation and transparency. The Griottes also comes out of the gates racing and is a hedonistic joy to drink.

Delas Cote du Rhone Ventoux 2020 375ml

Under the same ownership as Champagne Roederer for a couple of decades now, Delas Frères recently opened a new winery and enotourism facility in Tain l'Hermitage. It's a brilliant, modern facility that should be on the list of things to visit when in town. Winemaking is in the capable hands of Jacques Grange and Claire Darnaud. ROBERT PARKER, The Wine Advocate

Ventoux is the name of the Village and only a select number of high-quality villages are allowed to put their name on the label. This is a bit of a hit from Delas and offers a more light and pretty version when compared to the CDR bottling. Nice purity stuffed with plenty of crunchy red fruits, think cranberry, raspberry and strawberry. There are flecks of ground pepper and vanilla spice in a lithe and lifted package. Another great release.

    Querciabella Chianti Classico 2020 375ml

Greve in Chianti. 100% Sangiovese. Certified organic.

The 2020 Chianti Classico is bright, fresh and nicely lifted, with terrific precision and energy lending quite a bit of character. Bright red Sangiovese fruit, spice and a touch of blood orange are front and center. Even so, the 2020 appears to still be recovering from its bottling. That should not be an issue in another 6-12 months' time. This is the first vintage that includes fruit from parcel in Greve's Lamole district. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

Palacios Remondo La Montesa 2020 375ml

Medium ruby hue, with a bright and racy nose that’s full of pretty berries, redcurrants, fresh strawberries and potpourri. Medium-bodied and naturally juicy on the palate, showing lots of crunch and drinkability. Fresh, transparent and silky. Drink or hold. JAMES SUCKLING

2020 is a powerful vintage; it's structured and textured, the oak is very nicely integrated (12 months in barrel, but the powerful wine absorbed it completely), and it's powerful with 14% alcohol and a pH of 3.55, a little darker than in previous years. The tannins are very fine with a subtle chalky texture. There were 2,319 barrels that resulted in 672,000 bottles, 10,000 magnums and some larger and smaller formats. It was bottled from April 2022. LUIS GUTIERREZ, The Wine Advocate

Rocche Costamagna Langhe Nebbiolo 2021 375ml

The Costamagna family have dedicated their lives to Barolo production since 1841. Their long history began in the XIX century with Francesco Costamagna, carried on in the 1960s by Claudia Ferraresi and Giorgio Locatelli. Today, their son Alessandro keeps things ticking from their base in La Morra, Rocche dell'Annunziata: The Estate consists of 14 hectares of vineyards with 5 of those hectares in the sub-zone named Rocche dell'Annunziata.

Ruby red color. Deep raspberry and rose scents, well combined with spicy sensations. The tannic sensation is balanced and features a good potential, contributing to a captivating harmony. Due to its pleasant character, it is easy to pair to many foods. It pairs with white meat, chicken, medium-aged cheese. Its tannic finesse makes it also good with fish stew or soup and with spicy dishes.

    Trimbach Reserve Riesling 2020 375ml

Super-ripe lemon, fresh pineapple and herb aromas pour from the glass of this medium-bodied, concentrated and sophisticated dry riesling. Completely dry, with excellent balance at the long, very clean finish. 100% estate fruit from Ribeauvillé and Bergheim. Drink or hold. 94 points, STUART PIGGOTT, James Suckling

Jonathan Didier Pabiot Pouilly Fume Leon 2020 375ml

The 2020 Léon is surprisingly tangy and bright for this warm vintage with just 13% alcohol. It's light in body and focused while 12-18 months on lees has provided a sense of roundness and texture to the mid palate as well as a touch of autolysis-derived pastry character to the apple and citrus fruit and lightly floral aromas. Vibrant, fresh and youthful. Best enjoyed in the first three to six years of its life for its energy. REBECCA GIBB, Vinous.com

The former Florilège comes with a new name this year. Predominantly from limestone soils but also silex, the 2020 Pouilly Fumé Léon offers a clear, deep, fresh and spicy, quite complex and iodine bouquet with great precision and mineral intensity. Aged in stainless steel, concrete and 20% oak barrels (228 and 500 liter), this is a rich and round, very elegant and aromatic Pouilly-Fumé with good mineral and fruity freshness and a long, intense and tensioned finish that reveals fine tannins and crisp grip. This is a substantial wine with excellent aging potential. STEPHAN RHEINHARDT, Wine Advocate

Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Blanc 2022 375ml

The domain of Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron, certified biodynamic since 2005 and farming 34 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and 11 hectares of Pinot Noir in the Sancerre AOP, is producing world class white and also red wines predominantly yet not exclusively on silex soils. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine Advocate

Huet Vouvray Le Haut Lieu Sec 2022 375ml

The 2022 Le Haut-Lieu Sec is a lithe, reductive style with floral character and talcum powder. Full of phenolic, lip-smacking texture woven through its core, lending a sense of satisfying grunt to this dry yet balanced style. Clarity, precision and harmony are keywords in this wine's execution. A little more fleeting on the finish than ideal. (5.5g/L) REBECCA GIBB MW, Vinous

Domaine Huet reigns supreme in Vouvray. They make some of the world's most pure dry wines and piquant sweet styles from the racy and multifaceted Chenin Blanc. But you'll need patience, these powerhouses need around a decade to start revealing their inherent complexities.

Le Haut Lieu is the original vineyard,  purchased by founder Gaston Huet in 1928. It's based on heavy clay and chalk in the topsoil means these wines tend to be the most approachable in youth, though they age beautifully.

Cuilleron St Joseph Lyséras Marsanne Roussanne 2022 375ml

"Yves Cuilleron is a superstar of the Northern Rhône" THE WINE DOCTOR
"Yves Cuilleron has become one of the bright shining stars of the northern Rhone" ROBERT PARKER

There is no doubt to the pedigree of the wines coming from Yves Cuilleron. He makes an incredibly diverse range of wines both red and white but it's the latter that he is most famous for and his range of northern Rhone blanc impress for both their depth and breadth of selection.
Lovely orchard fruits with a squeeze of fresh citrus and some gentle white florals. Its at once racy and lush with some tightly coiled acidity keeping the lush fruits in check and providing some lovely bounce to the palate. Wonderful purity and light mineral streak sets it apart. A great example of the style and worth seeking out.

    Jean Defaix Chablis Vaillons 2022 1er 375ml

An exuberantly fresh and bright nose speaks mostly of white pepper, quinine and plenty of citrus influences, especially Meyer lemon. I very much like the texture to the succulent and fleshy medium weight flavors that terminate in a moderately and sneaky long finale that would benefit from developing further depth. Note that this could be enjoyed young. BURGHOUND

February Premium Pack 2024 - Mini Premium Pinot Pack

Yabby Lake Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 375ml

2021 was a vintage of exceptional quality.  A wet winter, mild spring and temperate summer produced wines that will live long in the memory and in the cellar.  The wines are fine, focused, beautifully balanced and above all, utterly delicious. This Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is intense and complex, super fine and silky.

A bright and dense crimson colour. The aromas are intense and complex for a young wine - red fruits, raspberry, red currant with dark cherries, coupled with a floral and spicy note. The palate is super fine and silky with layers of flavour and texture leading to a long and bold finish. Cellar for at least five years, and preferably more than 10. TOM CARSON, Winemaker, Yabby Lake

Paradigm Hill Pinot Noir L'Ami Sage 2020 375ml

George is winding back his production at Paradigm Hill and that is a real shame but with no new generation to take the lead he will keep at it all-be-it with a reduced output. His 2020's are some of the best in recent years and the Lamis Sage is always the more structured and tightly wound of the two single vineyards so being a half bottle and with a few years under its belt this one is a ripper!

Intense, enticing darker red fruit aromas followed by the expected savoury, toasty, fleshy and earthy character of this wine For L’ami sage, there is also a generosity together with a long complex and balanced fresh finish. Super fine tannins melt away easily into the gossamer fruit. Lovely drop!

Clarence House Reserve Pinot Noir 2021 375ml

"From a selection from the oldest blocks, planted 1998; 115, 2051 and MV6 clones; 20% whole bunches; matured 12 months in 10% new French oak puncheons. There is a lively, energetic jubilance to this cool season, which sits neatly in the spicy black fruit depth of well-established vines. Whole bunches come to the party with their signature, spicy, floral overtones. Chiselled and linear, it's confidently built for the cellar." 93 points (on the 2021 vintage). HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION

Domaine Philippe Collotte Marsannay Les Grasses Tetes 2021 375ml

From two parcels of old vines; one based on Crinoidal limestone (known in France as Calcaire à Entroques), the other Comblanchien.

This wine is perfumed and pure with real depth, lovely minerality in an elegant and focused style particularly for 2021. These wines from Collotte are getting better and better each year the cooler classic 21's at the estate have hit the mark. Fine velvety tannins mesh nicely with the small foresty-fruit mix carrying it to a long and satisfying finish. Seamless and classy this is all you could want from a wine like this and more.

Cristom Mount Jefferson Pinot Noir 2021 - 375ml

I’m incredibly impressed with the 2021s coming from the Cristom Estate, and this one is a perfect example of the phenomenal wines from the vintage. The Mt. Jefferson Estate Pinot Noir was just recently released, but it feels ready to drink now with impeccable balance, structure, and length. Notes of wild huckleberry, toasted anise, perfumed flowers, spiced red plum, and a hint of tangerine zest combine beautifully on the tongue. Delivering perfect balance, mouthwatering acidity, and rounded tannins, this will be a fun wine to watch over the next ten years to see how it evolves with age. Highly recommended (97) INTERNATION WINE REPORT

Pavelot Savigny les Beaune 2021 375ml

If you want to see what Savigny can do...you know where to look. Here. NEAL MARTIN, The Wine Advocate

The Pavelot domaine is right at the top of the price/quality curve. The Burgundy Report

Lovely definition here on the 2021 and leaning into the more classic vintage in all the best ways. Still a lovely openness to the layered mix of red and black fruits and some mid-palate weight that pushes everything along. Fine supple tannins weave their way throughout and a little spicy note on the finish add a lovely little flourish to the wine. Easy drinking Burgundy but with all the bells and whistles.

This is a heady and perfumed gin that is at once powerful and refined. A truly unique product that speaks of its home in the hills and of the philosophy of this family run operation.

In addition to this month's Italian Mixed dozen we thought we would like to offer a Negroni pack featuring this incredible product. We have matched it with our very own Vermouths and Bitters from its western counterpart Turin Vermouth. Their philosophy is to maintain tradition through the production while sourcing aromats and herbs from all over the world and based on the local wines of the Piemonte's hills. Together this forms once of the world great classic cocktail- the Negroni.

This classic was first created for Count Camillo Negroni in 1919 at Florence's Café Casoni.  A century later and millions of Negroinis, and this has sealed itself as one of the world's greatest classics. Below is the deceptively simple and delicious cocktail. We have included 2 bottles each of the Turin Bitters and the Drapo Rosso Vermouth so once you have gone through your first bottle of Marconi 46 all you have to do is grab another bottle or choose any one of your favourite local or international gins.
