Faintly smoky aromas of cassis, mulberries, dark plums and chocolate oak overlie nuances of charcuterie meats, cola and citrus zest. Medium to fullish in weight, this long, measured and translucently clear wine supports its sour-edged expression of vivacious dark fruits with a gentle, dusty spine of firmish tannins that builds strength down the palate. It’s mouthfilling and unctuously smooth, finishing with delightful drive and balance. (96) JEREMY OLIVER

Inky crimson with a pink edge and a layered "old world" nose of complexity and depth. It's tightly knit with intense dried florals, dark berries, black cherry, blood plum, fennel seed, fiery spice and citrus zest. Bay, thyme and a gentle meatiness brings earth while graphite and wet slate gives a mineral edge. Intoxicating and beautiful.
The palate is succulent, effortless and driven by pristine and generously flavoured cherry, multidimensional deep red and dark berries, earthy sweet beetroot and hints of watermelon. This is structured with finesse, balance and strength and is in complete harmony. Expensive fine silky tannins and a perfectly judged swell of acidity carries the juice long and far to a tail that drifts with licorice and spice for minutes. My goodness

An expression of Shiraz from cool climate Murrumbateman, in NSW, that somehow manages to come across very un-Australian. It's Aussie, but I couldn't help drawing comparisons to some wines I've had from Chambolle-Musigny and Hermitage...big call but it's true. Neither heavy, nor light, but full in every sense. A great wine that takes Aussie shiraz to a great new place. MARK MALOUF, Wine Worth Writing About
