Dominique Lafon continues to exhibit extreme enthusiasm for the potential of not only his 14 ha project but for the quality of the Mâconnais in general. He says that the steady stream of shipping trucks outside his cellar door waiting to be loaded has naturally attracted the attention of his neighbours and Lafon reasons that this has caused them to begin reconsidering their vineyard practices that emphasizes volume production at the expense of quality.

Lafon quietly but firmly observes that “there is too much wine on the market today and the only way to sell your wine is to produce not only quality but quality at a reasonable price. Consumers know when something is fairly priced and when it’s not and the Mâconnais has the potential to produce high quality wine at a fair price but not the way things have traditionally been done here by all but a handful of producers. Thankfully, there’s a core group here of young producers that have embraced quality with real enthusiasm and you’re going to see the bar raised throughout the region.” BURGHOUND
