Robert Chevillon
Chevillon might well be the appellation’s benchmark producer, especially since the ‘lesser-spotted’ Denis and Bertrand Chevillon took over the entire running of the estate from their father in 2000. They tap into the essence of their enviable holdings year on year, wines not just driven by power or complexity, but by their sheer force of personality. NEAL MARTIN
Like Domaine Henri Gouges, the Chevillons have a fine series of premier crus vineyards concentrated in the heartland of Nuits St Georges. However the wines are stylistically quite different: this has always been an excellent address for attractive, fruit forward, Nuits St Georges. Their best vineyards can age very well too. Chevillon rarely misses, indeed I would describe the domaine as one of the most consistent in all of Burgundy. Thus it won't surprise readers to see me extol the quality of the domaine's 2015s they are genuinely exceptional across the board. Moreover, because Nuits in the Côte de Nuits is like Pommard in the Côte de Beaune, meaning it gets less respect than it deserves, the Chevillon wines remain relative bargains and thus they are very much worth considering.
